For those of you in the stitch up camp, the Sheriff who said it would have been easier to kill him today has admitted to being aware of the phone call from the other county in 1995 when the actual rapist from the first conviction admitted to doing the rape in manitowoc county. He's admitted he also knew about the unreported phone call and did not report it either for another 8 years until Steven was released.

Just finished, what a documentary.
Should have been a mis trial, too much doubt - no blood, no DNA, mitowec officers on the scene where they're not supposed to be, search his house 8 times before they find a key conveniently placed on the floor which contains NO DNA from Theresa herself.
Weird how the defence didn't focus on the blood vial more either. That ETA test is not conclusive, they should have called 2 or 3 professional witnesses to emphasise that. The fact is they can see the evidence box has been broken into and someone's taken a syringe full out there.
Also Jury have definitely been got to - 7/12 think he's not guilty straight away.
Not convinced he's 100% innocent but a few things are certain:
Evidence was planted,
she wasn't killed in the trailer or garage OR at the time the police say it happened (Avery was on the phone to Jodie)
Brendan is innocent

Sad thing for Brendan is, he'll never get a retrial (or a fair one) because if he did and was found innocent, then Avery would also have to be considered innocent too....
As a result the detectives in this case would likely face charges themselves (and all previous cases involving them would need to be re-examined)....potential lawsuits against the state would be massive too....and the reputation of the police force & judicial system would be left in tatters....

A lot of people seem to have overlooked that highlighted is the exact reason they wanted to do Avery in the first place. One of the cops who claimed to discover the key (if not both? Can't remember the who was described as 'sitting on the bed') was being disposed for his first mis-conviction not a few days before Theresa died.
Finally got to watch to the end. No idea on Steven Avery's guilt or not, but pretty much convinced the young kid has been singled out and sacrificed for the reputation of the system. His interrogation was one of the most sinister thing I've seen. As far as I was aware children's testimony under investigation is inadmissible because their primary instinct is to agree with whatever adults suggest is the correct answer. Maybe if someone's emotional age is that low then the same rule should apply.
Just amazed at how much emotional baggage any juror would have already been carrying into this trial. Anyone who has been on a jury would probably tell you how hard it is to separate your emotional reactions and just listen to the facts. And stubborn emotional conviction is very compelling as the juror who left indicated.
The film makers clearly thought he was innocent and loads of criticism of the film on that stance, but in some ways that wasn't the main substance. If we just can't trust the legal system to act free from prejudice then there is little point to it. If misconduct was proven then every case they'd ever been involved on any level would have doubt cast on it.

I think part of the problem a jury face is that nobody tends to instruct you clearly on what reasonable doubt means. Some people will take it to mean they are more certain of one thing than another while others seem to think they'd have to see a recording of the crime itself alongside a confession.
So many strange legal pressures too. I think in some ways they were convinced that in questioning his guilt they were immediately giving a guilty verdict to the police department and there were doubts there too.
I can see huge advantages with the Scottish system of allowing a not proven verdict.
There will eventually be an Alford plea and both will be released, similar to the West Memphis 3 case.
