Love this... Simple but brilliant all rolled into oneI hate him.
2nd most errors from crossesSaves this season
J Butland- 80
T Howard - 75
P Cech - 73
Adrián - 71
C Pantilimon - 70
We've also conceded 32 goals
No argument that Howard needs to be replaced, but he's being absolutely peppered with shots. If the team can stop giving away these opportunities, then naturally less goals will be conceded.
A goalkeeper comes running out looks at 2 players bearing down on him and completely swerves it, they don't call him Tim Coward for nothing.Agreed.
Howard is being pilloried for his role in the first goal abut IMO the main culprit was Jags.
Think a fully match fit Jags would have usually dealt with Fabregas' ball over the top, but ultimately Howard could see the play developing, the ball was in the air a long time and (i) he did not react quickly enough and (ii) have the physical presence to deny Costa so I'm afraid it has to go down to him.
I'm no fan of Howard but you're wrong there. Jags had already been pushed off the ball and Costa was getting there ahead of him. If Howard hadn't come out at all it'd have been a simple finish for Costa. The problem is, Howard should have reacted quicker and just taken him out instead of bottling it.people saying howard isn't at any fault for the first goal, is laughable.. completely laughable.
First of all, jags should have headed it, initially but he didn't.
But the fact is, if howard doesn't come rushing out like a lunatic, and like a goalkeeper in his first premier league game, Jagielka simply clears it out the way.
Fact is, Howard runs out like a moron, misses the player, and the ball, and puts jagielka off completely.
Second of all, as a keeper and 'a keeper with great experience' as martinez calls him, he should know that if the defenders don't get to it, he HAS to make costa make a choice, at least give him something to be hard about. Simply running out of his area and giving costa no choice at all, giving him a free empty goal is completely laughable.
He's absolutely awful, and his 'great game' against city, nearly every shot was right at him.
i'm absolutely not wrong though, at all.I'm no fan of Howard but you're wrong there. Jags had already been pushed off the ball and Costa was getting there ahead of him. If Howard hadn't come out at all it'd have been a simple finish for Costa. The problem is, Howard should have reacted quicker and just taken him out instead of bottling it.
Ok mate.i'm absolutely not wrong though, at all.
Said that at the time, thats one of his weakness's he gets dragged out of position too often and can be guilty of watching the ball and not whats going on around himAlso Esk did you notice stones's position ? he was about 20 yds to the right of jags and in no position to come round on the cover. At any amateur standard of football and up, 1 cb would attack the ball with the striker and the other would come round on the cover. No communication in that back four at all.
