Tim Howard

Pathetic goalkeeping on the first along with pathetic defending by Jagielka. Considering the age and experience of the 2 of them it looked something akin to an under 8's match played on a Sunday.

At 2-0 up to be playing such a high line where one ball over the top would let them on was absolutely criminal. Then quite what Howard is swiping at I don't know. Pathetic all round bit not in the least bit surprised because Boberto continues to stick by him regardless so the likes of Wednesday against City is the rare game where he does what's required of a keeper.

Jagielka looked like an ale house defender for a spell 2nd half against Costa and was bullied something rotten. Put that down to playing such a large amount of games in such a short space of time after injury.

For all Howard's fine saves - he does not command his area or distribute the ball that well - If all you defence are communicated by the Keeper then they grow in confidence, TBH Chelsea were knocking on the door before that mistake by both players happened - Another fan stated sat in the Gladwys street end Robles is more vocal as the team is attacking.!
I've mentioned this Joey many times. His communication is dire and I think this is a part (not the whole reason) why his distribution is atrocious.

Across the last two seasons, there have been numerous examples of similar scenarios occurring between Howard and one of his defenders.

Yesterday was not entirely his fault, however it could have been easily averted if Tim had commanded the situation and communicated with Jags.

One big shout and Jagielka could have to some extent shielded the ball from Costa allowing Howard to collect. Instead there's another mix up.

That's before mentioning his original starting position, indecision and then his attempt, or lack of, to take the ball with confidence.

We've all seen it too often before which is the hugely frustrating part of it! A one off error is forgiveable but common recurrences are not.

You see when Robles is playing the defence look much more confident in all aspects of play, which is another telling factor.

Why do we have the worst goalkeeper in European football starting for us. ? Why ?
For whatever reason Martinez believes he's better than Robles, or at least believes that his experienced players deserves a role regardless of form.

It's not too unfamiliar to the Rooney situation over at Manure: he's been utterly atrocious this season yet van Gaal seems reluctant to drop him.

Howard had a fantastic game at Citeh and all credit to him for that, but in the long-term it's arguably just helped to mask his deficiencies again.

in reality one game of praise doesn't and shouldn't outweigh numerous games of dross, but with Tim it will. He'll survive even longer now!

In the long-term Martinez really should be considering to play Robles more, in essence to help him gauge what keeper we need in the summer.

Are we looking for an expensive option to automatically fulfil a starting role, or a back up for Robles who'll take that place? Only games will tell.

Such a decision could be the difference between spending £4-5m on a secondary keeper, or £10-15m on a first choice. Right now we're unsure.
