Hypothetical - who would you replace Martinez with ?

There's no one I'm overly sold on that I think can turn us into champions or whatever else, but the point I'm making is that the likes of Hughes, and Koeman wouldn't take us backwards from where we are now.

It's not like when Moyes left and plenty said we'd struggle to find a manager who can maintain the level we were at then.
But i doubt theyd have us showing the promise that bobby has us, that why so many get so frustrated, a few tweeks and we're going places

Mourinho.

An absolute prat of a man, but great manager and tactician. I reckon if he ever came to us he could make us title challengers within a season or two, with the players we have now.

I want to stick with bobby for the long haul though, he's so young relative to most managers at established top-flight clubs across Europe, great potential in him. Someone of Mourinho's caliber is the only way I'd get rid of Martinez, but that'd never happen anyway.

For what it's worth... I like Martinez , I think he's young ( in managerial terms ), motivated, enthusiastic and honest. I do think he is naïve defensively though and would benefit from employing a defensive coach. I know we probably have somebody already but an experienced ex player such as Tony Adams , Steve Bruce etc could really help him develop into a top top manager. Sometimes accepting your limitations and working on them can pay off massively.

But he is in this league, he can't handle the intensity

This, some reds are in for a real rude awakening at some point with Klopp. He is under zero pressure right now and has already cracked up with 3 different managers, soon as the media love in passes and the fans realise there not title contenders and get on his back, it will be back to real fun and games laughing at them.

I always end up getting talked around when it comes to Martinez. People rightly point out that there are positives about what he's doing but by the end of this season there's got to be a sign that we are going places in terms of whether we're climbing the league or we've bagged ourselves a trophy.

We can't keep going on saying there's potential when it's not being realised. At the end of the day an improvement isn't needed to appease a lowly pleb like me, the likes of Lukaku need to think this project is worth persevering with.

That's the Crux of it for me at the moment, realistically would many managers have this current side outside the top 10?

Martinez has us playing good football and he's a lovely bloke, but for me if we are bottom half come the end of the season and haven't a trophy then he's had a poor 2 seasons and should be sacked. Likewise if he sorts it out and wins us a pot/has us finishing the season strongly and gets say 7th/8th then he should be kept on.

It was the players today. Not the gaffer. Jags with a rare mistake. Howard bottling it again, and going half-heartedly for a ball on the edge of the box.....

Yeah, way to go Tim. There's nothing as great as watching a keeper sprint to the edge of the box, to then just bottle it....

Shocking keeping, he needs to be dropped. First time I've said it, but my patience has snapped.

We should have seen that game out. Too many players started flapping though.

Exactly the same. If he shows signs of progression then he's got the job for as long as he wants it.

If come May we're in the same situation as last year then he can have no qualms about being sacked. Luckily for Martinez that won't happen and he'll lead us into next season. What I think we're all desperate to avoid is settling into a position where finishing in the bottom half is acceptable.

A lot of people like to direct the blame onto the players but that only works when you're winning matches more often than not. When overall form is poor then the manager has got to take the brunt of the criticism.

That semi final against Liverpool is infamous because people say Moyes bottled it, nothing to do with Distin's mistake.

But there are weaknesss to all managers and even the ones at the very top still have them. Perhaps Martinez won't ever fix his glaring one of defensive organization but personally feel there are a lot worse faults that a manager can have.

Ranieri looks at the moment to be the best manager of the league but unless you've seen someone thrive for a couple of seasons how do you know? And even then you see a talented manager like Mourinho go from hero to zero in the course of six months.

It is an unenviable job tbh despite the financial rewards.

But as a manager, you can't legislate for that. Distin was a very useful player for us. I suppose you're trying to say that our semi loss was all Moyes' fault for buying him and making him a first choice player... It's weird, because I don't know any other right minded blue that would not have played Distin in that game, but still, it's always the managers fault I suppose.

I blame Distin a lot but I doubt we would've won that game anyway. Nothing to do with bottling, just that they had a better team who always upped their performance when they played against us.

I honestly and truly believe Mourinho was left hanging by his players and they wanted him gone. Costa is truly from what I've seen of him (obviously I don't know what he's like outside the game) a badly unsavoury person.

You can doubt it all you want, but I can tell you categorically that we only conceded 1 other goal in that match.
