Pretty good article really. Been banging on for ages that the reason we're conceding so many is because the full backs have no protection. In the Moyes days, we'd have Jack Rodwell and Phil Neville shoehorned into wide midfield positions. It made for turgid viewing at times, but at least we never gave away cheap goals from crosses.
Obviously, having a goalkeeper that doesn't [Poor language removed] himself when the ball comes anywhere near the six yard box would help too, but we're not doing enough to stop the crosses in the first place. Probably because - like Stoke's third goal last week - Kone, Deulofeu and Barkley all end up on the same position at times. Should never ever happen when we don't have possession and it's totally Martinez's fault.
But given the choice of grinding out a scrappy 1-0 victory at home with five defenders playing in midfield, or watching us play some of the best football in the league (honestly, how good is it to watch Lukaku, Barkley, Stones and Deulofeu play for Everton) yet continually shooting ourselves in the foot at the back, I know which I'd pick. Much more entertaining but even more frustrating.
