Roberto Martinez discussion

That might mean sommat if we were actually getting into winning positions very often in that season prior to Oxford, Bernie.

But we weren't :p

We never even scored a goal the whole month of December :(

I agree we were struggling at that point under H but could you (and most at Goodison) have pointed out how to fix it? How is it most of us can all see what the problem is with a Martinez side but he can't (or won't)? And let me rehrase my original point. Was Howard's team making the same errors as a unit week in week out without any visible attempt to address this?
It may not fit a pro-martinez agenda, but Kendall was trying to get it right while your man already thinks he has.

Word reaches me this morning that after the stoke game some of the directors present at the match were told in no uncertain terms that brown shoes game management skills deserve further magnification. They will not have been impressed by his presser today !
Yes, we heard all this last winter too. It's utter nonsense set in motion by people who haven't got a clue.

But Dave, the poster said it was this winter so how can it be the same as last winter?
Same stuff, different year.

'I heard from someone...in no uncertain terms...yada yada yada'.

Erm, who exactly said what to whom would be a start - if any credibility is desired for the info. It's not forthcoming though because it's a pile of wishful thinking junk from an irate fan.

Was there a consensus we were on the cusp of something then?

I was living in London at the time and came home for Christmas/New Year and went to the 0-0 Coventry game. In the pub the atmosphere beforehand and afterwards was bleak. A number of us sat in the County - I think it was - and debated whether to actually go the game. But every time I came home I always went the game so didn't break a habit. Grim is too kind a word to use.

Afterwards there were the usual won't see me at Goodison again until Kendall goes. Great player for us not management - arguments abound.

I went to the Oxford game and as usual we took numbers to the aways. Considering our home crowds had dwindled I was always amazed how many were at the games in London. There were an awful lot of Evertonians in London in them days - probably the same as now - but still loads from Liverpool.

When Heath scored as usual the delight was great - another bite of the cherry - but Howie he'll have to go.

Here's snip of the Oxford match.

See if you can point out what Howie needed to do.

I asked in my post for more detail.

"Roberto Martinez is the next Premier League manager who faces the axe.

In a shock development it is understood Martinez is suddenly under immense pressure at Everton in the wake of Neil Warnock’s dismissal at Crystal Palace. The 66-year-old Yorkshireman became the first Premier League managerial casualty of the season on Saturday.

The man who is being lined to replace Martinez as new Goodison Park boss is former England manager Steve McClaren, currently in charge at Derby"

At the start of the season Martinez seemed fireproof.

Such was the Spaniard’s reputation that he was spoken of as potential successor to Arsene Wenger at Arsenal or even a future England manager.

But Everton have underperformed this season and Grapevine sources tell us that Martinez’s job is now on the line".

Around the same date different year.

Mind, we are always in crisis according to those in the know.

Davek, why do you appear to dismiss absolutely everything as though you are the all-seeing eye?

I don't post on here often and was merely responding to another poster in saying I had heard the same thing. I heard it from a person who I
hear lots of things from and who is a very reliable source. I don't "desire credibility".

Do I care if you believe me? No. Do I believe it? Yes. Is it earth-shattering or even surprising? No.

"In no uncertain terms" - all I heard is that the Board (whether off their own back or from pressure elsewhere) are questioning RM's game-management ability. I haven't heard/said he is going to be sacked nor that he is even on borrowed time. What is there to sensationalise?

Funnily enough, the source isn't anti-Martinez and so wishful-thinking doesn't enter into it but you appear to have already made your mind up
about that.

As has since been posted, I'm sure most of us would be concerned if there Board weren't telling him to sort it out.

The point is it lacks credibility. I dont doubt you or D410 for that matter, I doubt the source. How can anyone expect to believe this garbage when it cant even be attributed? If i were to say to you that I was told that the board are going to offer Martinez a contract extension after the Spurs game would you believe what I was told? No. And with good reason. There has to be credibility.

Just the usual Everton Village rumour and counter rumour mill. Been here and seen it many times before and the vast majority is bunkum.

BTW: a director questioning the game management skills of Roberto?! Who on earth could believe that? Which one has piped up and asked such a question? Maybe you could inform us or hazard a guess and see if we believe the scenario?

Simple really, he cares more about Martinez than he does Everton.

It's only right that he is held partly accountable for poor results isn't it? His position must seriously come under scrutiny.

Unless you are a complete blimp with an agenda and have backed yourself into a corner with your undying love for him of course! :coffee:
