Naismith wasn't allowed to leave in the Summer because we didn't have time to replace him. If he goes, someone will come in.

yes and no

he also said he didn't know how deulofeu and kone 'would be' both first teamers now, so he might just decide we don't need Naismith

if we sell him and don't buy anyone I might be a bit angry!

I think if he goes, he'll go early and we'll get a younger replacement who's good enough for the squad now, but will be seen as a replacement both for Naismith and, longer term, Kone.

Welcome to Zats January 2016 Transfer Thread

Can we have a separate Ijjys We Are Not Signing Anybody Thread?

I have the attention span of a goldfish these days so just move quickly over Zats posts. I'm sure there's some good stuff in there like, but it's just too detailed for me. He's a keen Blue though, so lets live and let live.

Ijjy will be right one day.

I was right back in that period we went like 2 years without paying for a single player!!

Never really got over it IMHO.

From the Guardian:

Everton
11th 26pts

What they need

January is a time for “tweaks” and not fundamental changes, according to Roberto Martínez, who may be busier trimming his squad than adding established players to it. No key players will be allowed to leave, as Everton showed in the summer with John Stones and Chelsea, but Steven Naismith and Aiden McGeady could be among the departures. Andy Hunter

Top target

A goalscoring midfielder.

Signed in January 2015

Aaron Lennon (Tottenham Hotspur, loan).

---------------

Interesting that they think we need another midfielder instead of a GK or another back up to Lukaku

Suppose that's based on Naismith leaving. We do need another 'keeper, but ultimately it looks very unlikely to happen this month.

A replacement for Naismith is vital though - somebody who can come into our first-team and ideally fill in on that left hand side/offer support up top if the worst happens and Rom picks up a knock.

Didavi would be my choice for now if that's the type of player we're after.

If it's more of a playmaker - Bonaventura (who I've said before is looking like Pienaar in his prime - just with more pace), Mertens or even Matias Fernandes would be ideal - though our problems aren't particularly in creating chances...

He's signed.
Supposedly it can't be completed until January 2nd

Explained: How Everton have been allowed to play Matty Foulds before he's signed

Everton can’t complete the signing of Matty Foulds until January - so why was he allowed to play for the under-18s on Saturday?

The Blues will finalise the £225,000 transfer of the Bury teenager when the window opens on January 2.

Everton can field Foulds as a trialist in two games over the space of a one month period, before signing him.

Bury need to give their go-ahead for him to play in either game but are highly unlikely to contest any request from the Blues.
