Might soon be a good idea for you to get yourself acquainted with the phrase 'negged' https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/...ful-words-appendix.29081/page-29#post-3602565 as you'll be quite near the front of the queue.

You've had a rough day on here.

Jesus wept. 'Rough day'. Or is that a 'post modern iconic appreciation' reply, as I can't find that one in the GOT dictionary. Still can't work out what it means though. But never mind. As I couldn't possibly get it seeing that I've had a 'rough day on here'. Whatever that means as well. Couldn't find it in the GOT dictionary as well.

Halfway point. We're still in touching distance for a European place in the league. But the defensive side of our game needs working on. Martinez will sort out what is going wrong with the defensive side of our game along with the players.

And we are still in the semi final of the Capital One Cup, which is not too bad as we haven't been in this position since 2008. Heard that Man City haven't won away from home since September, and with all those resources at his disposal. Not unbeatable. And considering this team fear playing no-one, should stand us in good stead for the first leg at home.

But there again we could win our first trophy since 1995 with 3 nil nil draws.

No.

A loss is not "a loss".

I have sat through enough losses at Goodison Park over the years to know the difference between a boring or bad loss and losing a game in a cracking afternoon's football.

Yesterday was very definitely in the latter category.

That improvement from last ŷear is there for all but the most blinkered to see.

Once we get that defence tightened up the sky is the limit for Everton under Bobby Martinez.

He has the team living up to the boast we make in the song we sing before every game........"Everton the team that plays beautiful football".

And it us a long, long time since we belted out those words with any conviction.
Losing a game in a cracking afternoons football will become unacceptable very quickly. We need several boring 1 0 wins very quickly to get this season back on track

Really isn't that difficult to look up some facts

November 2015

Sevilla 1-3 Man City

We're as close to Tottenham in fourth as we are Newcastle in 18th. Or I guess you meant the Europa League... you know, the competition all the acolytes like yourself blamed our league form on last season.

This team fears playing no one?

Record against current top ten this season: Played 10, won 0, drawn 5, lost 5. Seven of these games at home. Perhaps a little bit of fear might sharpen them up...

Doesn't he have something like 1 point from 15 against City in his time here?

Must try harder.

Just getting back to the point of the thread: the data does suggest a very bang average sort of points/position to our season so far: not great, not poor by our historic standards. What I would contest though is that the performances have been well above what we've seen in the past decade and that has to be seen as the basis for projecting what will or can happen at the end of the season.

Basically the data also shows that in our points/position we can take a comfortable top half of the table spot by season's end. In four of the ten season's we're either just below or just above the halfway totals of seasons where we went on to finish top 7 or even top 5. So it's all to play for. As others have pointed out, that's going to need a defensive rethink and maybe a move into the transfer market.

Did I? Look forward to seeing the quote.

Thanks for reminding me that they beat Seville away in November. Have had a 'hard day' on here so that slipped my mind when I heard that City haven't won away since September. I really must try harder to remember that City are so good. Keep forgetting. Probably like I forgot that I blamed the Europa League for our poor form. Just pull the quote up and save me the bother. Had a 'hard day on here' and all that.

Ho ho ho ho we do love some data on here and no mistake.

And while they have created some attractive football teams at Swansea and Wigan, none of them have ever been defensively sound.

In his first season as a top flight manager Wigan shipped a cringeworthy 79 goals - a Premier League high - including a harrowing 9-1 demolition at White Hart Lane when the Latics trailed 4-1 after an hour but stoically refused to implement damage limitation tactics.

The goals conceded tally improved to a more respectable 61 the following season - but still only four Premier League teams conceded more.
Then in 2011/12 Wigan shipped 62, enough for a second successive 16th place finish in a campaign when just five clubs conceded more.

In Martinez’s final season at Wigan those defensive holes finally proved catastrophic.

Wigan were back in Premier League high territory again - 73 goals conceded which was enough to see them relegated.

This season Everton are in Premier League high territory, too.

The alarming 19 goals they have conceded in home matches is three more than West Brom and five more than Newcastle.

There's only one way we are going to get a defensive rethink here.

You have indeed, it's been brutal for you.

It is still zero points which ever way you look at it. If you do not put points on the table then down you go.

The team does not get points for pretty football.

I posted my response to that earlier mate: I wont read any stuff by him. He's a plagiarist and therefore persona non grata.

He's not making up the data though David, though your sentiments on the author are fair

Because defending isn't part of the performance apparently...

There's spin and then there's davek.

Let's put it this way...data comes in two guises: the positive presentation and negative. If I choose to highlight the former it's because I'm a fan and support the manager's overall aims. He's a 'reporter' and therefore supposed to cover both sides, not coat tail a bunch of forum whingers and get them onside.

Avoid his stuff at all costs.

Europa League quote please. Be a good chap and pull it up. Have had a 'rough day on here' and all that.

At the halfway point in the league this season we are within touching distance of the Europa League places. In the Capital One Cup we stand 2 games, away from a Wembley appearance, against a team that can be poor at defending and all over the place. Since August City have kept 3 clean sheets against Villa, United and Crystal Palace. City are not invincible or unbeatable.

You can quote me on this, we will give City a good run for their money. Looking forward to the Europa League quote mind.

So if we don't support the manager and show the negative stats on here (for balance, of course), are we not fans of the Club?

Seems quite a sweeping statement.

You'd been ripped apart on here mate, sorry to see you have a meltdown.
