Halfway point of the season

The problem is he has surrounded himself with flair or attack minded people and expects this to be ok to win games.

I'd ditch Jones as number 2 and ideally get in Stubbs, Weir or Irvine. Failing that get an ex no nonsense PL centre half next to him. Nigel Pearson would be a good choice as a number 2 and defensive coach. There has to be someone out there to help us defensively.

What about promoting Unsworth?

I'm all for just hiring someone who, if we're in a lead with 15 minutes to go against a dangerous side and we have three strikers on the pitch, mercilessly beats Martinez with his fists until he makes the obvious sub.

I don't want to hear statistics, I prefer opinions. The league has become so saturated since the TV deal that it would be misleading to compare points across different seasons. Arsenal, ManCity, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, ManUtd, Spurs, Newcastle, Southampton and Hull constituted the top half 24 months ago and only Spurs have accumulated more points this season of those teams (1 additional point that is). The issue is that Martinez couldn't organise a bacon butty never mind a premier league defence.
As y'all have said consistently, we keep making the same mistakes and that's what is so alarming. I kept the faith last season, which only seems to have compound the hardship and torment I've got to endure as talented defenders concede time and time again. But he's definitely the right man for the job so pipe down you at the back

Interesting - are you a @hullefc multi?

Erm. 'Multi', what the heck does that mean? Or is it, to quote your good self, a " post-modern ironic appreciation"?.

How does it go? "Ah, so you've dissolved into making no sense.

Never mind".

A multi is another account for an already registered user. A phrase used all over the site.

Might soon be a good idea for you to get yourself acquainted with the phrase 'negged' https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/...ful-words-appendix.29081/page-29#post-3602565 as you'll be quite near the front of the queue.

You've had a rough day on here.

The TV deal where we're lucky to catch 3 matches per matchday? 4 if we pray to the mighty overlord? Whilst Canadians get just about every match...
I'm not hating on Canadians, just that we're left listening to the radio in this day and age or forced to turn to streaming.

Back on topic: I think we've been strangely unlucky. We seem to play teams at the top of their A-game. Norwich, Bournemouth, Leicester, Stoke and earlier in the season Arsenal, Man City and Utd.. That said, in those games, we still should have been the better side, especially against the smaller teams.. Its down to us, ultimately.
A defence made of glass - looks pretty with Stones being so hyped up - but in reality we trade a lot for our attack. How much we pay for Funes Mori? 9M? That's the price of an average defender, and that's what we got.

If Jags isn't able to come back within the next couple games, we need to buy someone. Also, wtf do we do about left-back? Last couple games both Galloway and Baines haven't done enough for me. Do we play Baines and hope he gets back to his best, play Galloway and hope he develops further or get someone new altogether?
Anyone remember Garbutt?

I reckon we will need 2 centre halves as I think Stones will still go in Jan. I reckon a bid we can't refuse will come in from City or Utd.

Problem we have then is Martinez has a dodgy record buying defenders.

When Moyes left, I felt as though he had done the very best he was capable of. When Martinez goes, I worry I will think 'what could have been...'

Hope he proves me wrong and turns over Spurs at the weekend

team playing better than last season. Defence nuts at times. Playing Joel would solve that I think. In a cup semi final. should go through in FA cup. A striker who scores for fun.

Better than last season.

These next three games are crucial we've put ourselves in a ridiculous position now, where we have to beat two of Spurs, Chelsea and city to have any real chance of doing anything, with the last two away from home.

And then, if we were to lose all 3, or only get 1 or 2 points, we're looking over our shoulder at other results...

Better than last season.

We went out of both cups in the first round and got 21 points from 19 games.

Pretty fair to say it is better than last season, if we'd managed the same this season we would be in 14th. A whopping three places lower.

we can do nowt about Garbutt as the deal with Fulham means he stays there all season.

The issue last season was that from here we got 7 points until mid-march and had, IIRC< 28 points from 29 games.

Short of an absolute meltdown we should be beating that, by some distance, and we always go on a run in March.

Still wake up screaming thinking of that newcastle game last season we lost 3-2 where we gift wrapped 3 goals for them
