Funnily enough, if that first season hadn't been so competitive then 72 points would have achieved exactly that.

We've had a great season followed by a disappointing one followed by now a promising one.

Anyone who doesn't accept that is a sandwich short of a full picnic.

Im sorry David but I dont consider 2 wins in 10 games as promising, I dont consider being in 10th place in 1 of the worst Premiership season as promising.

Can you please explain whats so promising about it, cos quite frankly im really struggling to take anything promising so far.

Why is it one of the worst PL seasons? I'd say the reverse is true - it's more competitive now than anytime before.

As for 10th place: behind City, Arsenal and Leicester you can throw a coat over the places from 4th down to 11th. It's no ground to make up.

Agree if you are saying this is a great PL season, its one of the best i can recall, there isn't a single fixture that is a given on who will win, well unless Villa are playing, its a great season.

As for Everton, the ground is well out of our reach, not in terms of points but in the number of teams, the traffic to pass is too much, Europe is gone, but at least we can cocentrate on the cup which is far more important.

The "tier 2" sides are undoubtedly better. However the top teams are nowhere near as strong as they were 6-7 years ago when we had the best teams in Europe. Arsenal are the strongest team and they were hammered by Munich and only scraped past Olympiakos.

I wouldn't say that, CL is looking unlikely but 6th-7th still gets Europa most of the time, as does a cup win.

CL was never realistic, 5th a possibility. I still think we get a move on second half of the season and get 60 odd points. Where that takes us to we'll see - 6th/7th historically speaking.

Agree with that. It comes to something when this pretty erratic Arsenal team is a hot favourite for the title.

There's a definite equalisation process going on in the top half of the table. It's proven frustrating for us up to this point of the season, hopefully we can show a clean pair of heels to the others in that group of 10 from now until May. I think we will too.

How is CL gone? Not you too Dave please have hope in this Everton team. Martinez knows how to go on winning runs when needing to. A little run has us right in the mix in the 5th to 8th place. We end seasons strongly, as all Martinez teams do. CL isn't gone until its mathematically possible. Have some hope.

CL spot means minimum 70 points. No chance of that now.

I actually think we might have to face a Christmas of discontent yet. We've never had a convincing holiday period under Martinez and it's got off on the wrong foot again.
