Roberto Martinez discussion

I think I will be mate. Unless there's a cup in there. Which there probs won't be.

That's up to you. i think it would be incredibly harsh. It's a young team, and we're gonna have ups and downs. If he doesn't bin Howard off in the summer though, then I'll start asking questions. His decline is obvious now. Was hoping he'd find a bit of form this season, but he's just not mentally capable, imo, that much is now obvious. It's certainly not physical attributes hindering him. By rights, he should be playing the best he ever has with his mix of athleticism and experience; hence why I've come to the conclusion that his mentality/decision making is to blame.

It is all a gamble with martinez now. DO you cut your loss after another dissapointing season and take the chance of another moyes taking over, or a mclaren? Do you stick and see the defensive problems continue as is traditional under the man and have that cost us the chance of success?

Or do you back him and see more great young players come to the club? Do you give him chance to change his shortcomings and have the team benefit from that? Do you give him funds to sign his marquee players like yarmalenko would have been, knowing he does want to bring these talented players to the club?

We should be looking for a European spot, or at least attempting to get it. I believe that's what the manager's said umpteen times he's aiming for. We've been there once in his time here, missed out last season. Let's see what this season brings in terms of possible qualification via all routes.

I think you are clinging to the idea we might win the league cup. To do that we need to play three good games against fairly decent opposition. You know as well as I do that at least one of these would be a monumental Everton no show bottle job.

Still got ages to go like. Hopefully he turns it around, and starts to learn from his mistakes and shuts up all his doubters.

But i don't think that'll happen.

There's lots of ifs and buts mate. I'm not sure I know what I'll think in the summer. But I am sure I don't want him gone now. Which is handy because it won't happen!

The whole idea of the TV money evening things up has been blown out of all proportion in my opinion.

I've just looked at transfers in the summer of 2011, to get an idea of what was happening prior to the influx of cash. That summer Everton spent no money on transfers, bringing in somewhere between £16-18m in sales. In comparison, Stoke spent £22m and sold nobody, Liverpool spent in excess of £50m and raised about 10% of that in sales, while bottom sides like Wolves and Fulham had a net spend of around £12m.

This summer, we spent around £20m net - virtually all incoming transfers with no players of note leaving. Liverpool spent around £80m and received £65m in return, and Stoke spent a similar amount to they had in 2011 but this time received about 15m of it back in sales. The sides currently at the bottom like Villa, Swansea, and Sunderland all had net spends between £5-15m.

So as far as I can see, we have spent significantly more money than we did in the past, while other teams appear to be keeping it fairly similar in real terms. And yet people keep telling me that it is now harder for us to compete than it used to be. How can that be? In 2011 we lost a semi final to Liverpool with a matchday squad which included such luminaries as Gueye, McFadden, Anichebe and Stacqualursi and people were absolutely fuming about it. We've now got players like Naismith, Mirallas, Lennon, and Besic not able to get a look in, and people say we can't be expected to compete with Leicester, Crystal Palace and Watford. At least we used to take a knife to our gunfights, now it seems we just assume we're going to get shot and end up happy if it doesn't kill us.

love the current Everton, flaws and all, and thats down to the boss.

I'm happy to give him the 5 years that I think the club will give him as a minimum.

obviously barring a total disaster season, which personally speaking I don't think we have had yet.

I think the 'who knows' is the best way to look at it mate.

I'd be absolutely dead against changing the manager mid season no matter what. There's just too much to change and for a new man to get his ideas over. But come the end of the season. Well who knows what will have happened.

Same here, but come the summer it should be reassessed to see what direction we're going. I think there's a definitely a valid argument for him moving on IF we show no progress come May.

It would be in the category of a minor miracle. City aren't playing well right now but we must be the ideal team for them to play against.

We'll go out and attack them leaving space for the likes of Aguero and Silva to exploit. I think we could get the better of them in one game but right now I can't help but think we'll ship 3 goals in a game and that'll put the tie beyond us.

Which is what he'll probably get if reckon.

To be honest I don't think we will get rid no matter what any of us think I'm the summer.

Hilarious hearing the MAJORITY of pro Martinez fans having a go at the anti Martinez faction, the pro's said lets give it until Christmas with the smugness of 'I bet we will be top 5, that will shut the haters up'. Now were at Christmas and we are tenth vastly underachieving in the league (given the squad we have) although we do have a milk cup semi final (something nobody cared about until this season......) im sorry pro Martinez section but he hasn't got us in the top 5 so far, bend over and take it dry from the anti Martinez faction, once its all said and done and we have played 38 games just pray that Martinez has improved ;) otherwise it will be more of the sudocrem and soft seating for you lot :bye:

(Still hope your right though)......
