Computer games.

Exactly.

Why??? How on earth does that make any sense whatsoever?!?!?!?!?

How on earth did it release on the Playstation without being watered down 18 years ago?????

When announced, this became the only game I've ever pre-ordered.

I have now cancelled it.

So much shame. No doubts in my mind now between this news and the stupid decision to make it real time combat... the game is ruined right off the bat.

Luckily, I still have Final Fantasy VII to play whenever I wanted. And Bravely Default, Grandia II, Shining Force II and so on.

'koff "modern" gaming.

Couldn't believe it when I saw the footage of the combat - Don't they realise that what every fan wants (IMO) is a shinier updated version of the original - NOT to tinker with the mechanics?!

Are they going to water it down, though? What Nomura said (and what the trailer suggests) could easily be taken to mean there will be a lot more freedom to roam about, rather than have whatever your version of Cloud was called follow a preset sequence of quite small maps and loading screens, interrupted every now and then by a random fight - which would never be acceptable nowadays.

I am annoyed by the fact that he says that if it wasn't released in an episodic format it would be watered down.

They are doing this for a single reason:

$$$

That is all. There is NOTHING stopping them from releasing a complete game.

Why? Why did people arbitrarily decide this is suddenly "bad"?

FF7 is infinitely better than FF13 and more enjoyable to play to this day, yet has those features. What happened exactly to make random encounters, ATB and the weird idea of a game being a full game on day one so unfashionable?

It's a FF7 remake FFS!

Skyrim (or better yet, Fallout 4) showed you can still do random encounters without having them be totally at random - but that wasn't what I was referring to as being unacceptable nowadays; that was aimed at the single-room 2d map followed by loading the next room, then the next one, then the next one after that and all in a set rotation.

This is Square Enix 2015 sadly, not Squaresoft. They don't realise anything; they're just complete idiots.

You have to be next level stupid to balls up something as simple as a Final Fantasy remake. Just keep the same game, make it pretty, tighten up the few faults it had (translation issues, a few poor mini games) and make billions - it isn't bloody hard FFS.

People replay FF7 on the PS1 and PC to this very day - all they wanted was something that didn't look like a game from 18 years ago visually. That was all.

If they are going to do it right, remake everything in the game and make it all to a standard deserving of the game's reputation (the trailer suggests voice acting for every line), it will take them absolutely ages and the complete game will be massive; don't forget the original was four CDs when most games were one. I agree that they would make more money by an episodic format, but it would also be a lot easier for them to do than release it all at once.

They are two first person RPGs built from the ground up with real time combat.

We're talking about Final Fantasy 7 here though. It's beloved for a reason - and that reason is that it isn't Skyrim or Fallout.

It isn't just that though - just look at what Elite: Dangerous has gone through, which like FFVII was a twenty year old game that people just wanted updating to a modern standard... yet the amount of work that requires means that even getting to do 50% of the things that you used to be able to do in Frontier has taken nearly four years of work and tens of millions of pounds.

You're spot on Tubey - I didn't actually realise that all of the Square games I love are from before they became Square Enix (esp Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story)

Thankfully, the upgraded FF7 just released on PSN is pretty much all I wanted from the remake

I DON'T WANT THAT THOUGH!!!!

I want FFVII with good graphics. I want to relive the best FF game I played.

I don't want a modern version of the game. I want the same damn game, with modern graphics and sound!!

Also, having 4 discs doesn't make it special.....I had several Playstation games that were all multiple discs (Fear Effect, Gran Turismo2, MGS, Legend of Dragoon are ones of the top of my head.....)

To reiterate, the only reason Square are doing this, is for the cash.

I completely appreciate the Elite comparison, however, I feel that is invalid in this situation. Elite hasn't had several sequels (just the 3, Elite, Elite 2: Frontier, Frontier: First Encounters the newest of which is FFE, which was released in the early 90s) like Final Fantasy has. I have seen the modern version of FF, and I don't want that. I want FFVII. That was the pinnacle of the series for me.

It's a shame what they are doing with this game. They are murdering it.
