Roberto Martinez discussion

Short answer is that in my eyes, Martinez has talked a lot of crap. But that's nothing new in a football manager, to put a positive spin on what happened in an attempt to try control the headlines. The day of straight talkers appears to be gone, this managerial double speak is endemic in the game.
The issue would be if he believed what he said, and was the same in the dressing room as he is in the media. That's something which from my understanding is not true, that he is prepared to be ruthless and make tough decisions behind the fluff. He has shown he can learn and make the changes needed to improve the team. When he stops learning from his mistakes, that's when I'll have a serious issue with him.

Ultimately for me, we live in a world where everyone is on a short time frame. What we are expecting the manager to do however, is overachieve relative to our peers.
Whilst hard before, this has been made even harder due to the influx if tv money that has evened the playing field for everyone. However we have got a good young squad with youthful key performer, as a result of Martinez's plan. While last year was awful, and this season we aren't where we should be, I think we can have a little patience, at least until the end of the season. Then have a look at how we've done. Anything less than European qualification of some kind is a failure with this team we have.
Top 8 with a cup, or Top 6. That is what we need to achieve.

Good points mate, for me I'm not kneejerking about him until i can judge the full season, he can win a bit of a plus point if he actually gets rid of his idiotic stance about the January transfer window, IF a squad has glaring holes and needs to bring people in then it doesn't matter if it's summer or January it needs to be tackled proactively

I agree with you and having howard in goal breeds nervousness.
Martinez has got to be strong and pick joel for newcastle.

In theory he should do, for one it would instantly give the fans a boost as well as got the feeling they are starting to turn towards the way they were last season and it would arrest that for a while at least.

It's got to the point now where even the media is running multiple stories frequently slating Howard, the fans are against him almost to a man, and the player seem nervous and actually now more settled with Robles, those three things together means he should just bite the bullet and do the 'hard' thing

5 wins in 17 is extremely poor yet we are only 6 points off 4th. Bizarre season and you might only need 65 points for 4th. Need to win next two games and then a strong second half of the season. I haven't seen anything to suggest were capable of that though.

He has to manage the situation mate and not hide from it,like you say the fans cannot understand why howard keeps getting picked.

no but what about Funes Mori , Kone and Mc Geady?

Funes Mori hasn't been a bad buy at all, first season made a few mistakes but hardly been costing us games mate, ofc we could have bought the west ham bloke instead whose been rubbish, or not bought anyone and be playing Barry at cb instead...

Kone - a massive injury right after he joined - been ok in a few games this year but overall could have bought any player going and if he'd popped his knee early on the same result could have happened, McGeady always was and always will be a terrible (although not costly) buy

@davek do you think Galloway is ready now at left back to play consistently? I think he still needs to be put in and taken out to build his experience myself with a game at CB in the cup and a couple more end of the season (as he got a LB last season) to see if he can be considered 4th choice CB next season.
.

Yeah, I agree he should be taken in and out, but should be starting the majority of games now. It's his place to lose rather than for it to be handed to Baines on a player just because he's the senior player.

This all over mate. Joel has to start. The defenders would be much calmer with him in goal.
Thing is though he's clearly not going to. No matter what Howard does he's untouchable, despite us having a better option on the bench. If this isn't explained by us bringing in a new keeper in January (which I don't think we will do) then I think I'll have had it with Martinez and his stubbornness. We're playing a weakened team for no reason.

I just want him to walk the walk he talks so to speak, he says players form when given a chance and players out of form will decide who plays, then doesn't actually live up to that for half the players who get to play no matter what or alternatively don't even get a shot to play

I think he talks rubbish a lot of the time but its certainly time he stepped up now because 5 wins all season is shocking
