Roberto Martinez discussion

I seem to remember the chorus for 10 years when we played at Anfield. Old Trafford, Emirates and Stmaford Bridge, 'Let's just go at them for once. Just have a go instead of sitting back'. No one can say that about Martinez, his teams have a go and don't fear playing anyone.
Short term memory syndrome. I seem to also remember half of them singing 'Roberto's blue army' and talking admiringly of brown shoes.

If we beat Newcastle and then Stoke I dare say they'll find the words again. It cant be taken seriously.

Under Moyes we were punch drunk middleweight throwing hopeful lumbering shots and then hanging onto the rope; under Martinez we're a nimble bantamweight jabbing and scoring.

....Before running out of steam and ideas. Flattering to deceive, schizophrenic from one round to the next but usually managing to score enough in the early stages to avoid a catastrophe.

We are basically the Charlie Magri of the Premiership mate, start like a house on fire, batter the opposition then blow up and spend the second half of the fight trying to avoid being stopped

If we`re going down the road of boxing metaphors then i`d liken us to Audley Harrison.
Looked promising, made all the right noises but when it mattered found utterly wanting.

Rubbish. While I didn't especially like Moyes, it's impossible for anyone who went to games that he could and did have sides that played very entertainingly and won.

If we beat Newcastle and then Stoke, you KNOW the mood on here will be party time.

That's why I dont take all the whinging seriously. It's utter kneejerkism.

I say again: 60+ point finish + a very good cup run = worthy season whilst the rebuilding continues apace.

...and you can bet your bottom dollar the board of this club will see it exactly like that. I wouldn't rule out a contract extension if those targets are hit.
Oh puh-lease. I suggest you never play serious poker, because in that game you can get called now...your response would be "I don't want to show this underwhelming hand, because I'll be dealt a better one in the future ....
You call criticism kneejerking, and I'm sorry mate, that's a straw man position. I know what I see, and Martinez is a great bloke...but he's not a great manager. He can't bluff any longer

We were KNOWN throughout the country as a long ball team under him. Was there a few games when the dullard let the players off the lead? Yes. But by and large it was painful, regressive football.

RM is not strong tactically in my view, but he does have strengths.

We have not recovered mentally since Bournemouth, We have dominated teams and then allowed opposition coaches to tweak their teams to address their problems.
You have to expect that teams will change things in response, so therefore you should make the first move. For e.g. 2-0 up at Bournemouth take off Kone introduce Lennon to protect that flank - the same flank where Smith came on and changed the game. Hindsight and all that...
