Roberto Martinez discussion

Top 4 is over to be honest. Let's win a cup. Hopefully jags is back and maybe we should consider selling stones and buy two quality players, a defender and another attacking midfielder who can play on the left
We should be saying lets buy two quality players to add to the likes of Stones, not sell him!

Changing mid season unless in immediate danger of relegation is usually not sensible. The market of who is available is far smaller and there is no time for a proper preseason.

I've always said a manager needs at least three seasons to show what he can do. For me the end of this season will be quite a pivotal one. Lukaku and Stones will probably be off (dependent on our success) and so will players like Mirallas, Naismith plus the potential retirements of the likes of Hobbert Osman and Pienaar. In short a large squad rebuild could be on the cards. In my mind that would signal the logical end of Martinez's first cycle of an Everton team. The judgement then comes as to whether you think he has done enough to warrant being the person who we trust to carry on. If the second part of the season goes well in the cups and league it would be silly to say he's not that person, if things continue in line with current form then I don't believe he will have shown enough to warrant further support. This is his squad now and he has to show he can be competitive with Everton in the league as a minimum.

All of this is irrelevant anyway as I don't think the board have any minimum standard above not getting relegated.

I certainly would not trust him with any more funds

We should but that isn't a reality while we're still under this current board.
I say give the manager till the end of the season, then reassess and review our performance from there.
We aren't too far away should we click and go on a run, plus we are still in the hunt for a trophy and haven't even touched the FA cup yet.
The success of this season, team and manager is still yet to be determined.

dead right mate...we're not a sacking club and we're not a kneejerk reaction club :we're a 7th-11th ranked club. I got told off by @Woolly Blue for being a smart arse about this. But my facetious irreverence has borne truthful fruit. This is the best Everton XI in a generation....and the best we will do is...seventh. I care less what the @davek apologists harp on about, as do the @Blue Cheese 's with their illegible grammar: Everton circa 2015 is missing an opportunity of my what's left lifetime....and it kind of pisses me off.

Indeed you did, and it's good to see you posting what you really think. Makes for a much more constructive discussion.

@TheOldLady on a proper rampage here

If we're to stay in contention for European places we have to beat Newcastle and Stoke otherwise we'll be cut too far adrift I reckon, with the way other results are going we might get away with 4 but we need the wins. I think Kone is badly out of form and I think Mirallas should be given a start.

good post mate, your reasoned words belie your youth. Me?, I'm a bit more year-wise grizzled and disillusioned.
A post match Martinez comment : "After we conceded the first goal I thought we had a very good reaction. We scored the goal and from that point on it was almost like trying to get restarted every time."
What does this even mean? The man speaks in gobbledygook.
As some bloke on another forum wrote :

Listening to Martinez is like listening to re-runs of Kung-Fu:

’So, Grasshopper, what have we learned from this experience?’

’I have learned from this experience that I need to learn...’

’Excellent, Grasshopper. And will you learn?’

’No, master.’

’Excellent, Grasshopper. It shows you have learned.’

Funny as it is, that's Martinez speak...he's fast become a phenomenal manager in a good moment of his own parody

What is bizarre about building a structure and team for the long haul. Do you want a quick fix manager? Who will or can provide a quick fix manager with the money to make that possible.
Two and a half seasons in and some of them want to turn us into a basket case club like Sunderland with a revolving door on the manager's office.

It's a good job these experts aren't even remotely on the same page as the owners or they'd have had us in the Championship in the last two seasons.
