Roberto Martinez discussion

It depends on what you set "achievement" as.

We currently have:

A non-existant bench
The worst keeper in the league
5 kids learning their trade
A centre back still adapting
Our best midfielder injured
Our captain injured
No left midfield
5 players out of contract end of season

I suggest that achievement could be classed on building a squad. Martinez is bringing in a few players each window with the funds he has at his disposal.

If in the summer he hasnt brought in 2 players for GK/LW/CM/CF then i will worry...then 2 more the following summer...

We will look very strong then...thats when i would be worried if we were midtable.

There's not a manager currently in the prem who would achieve less than Martinez with the same set of players

In terms of centre back he brought in the car crash that is mori and tbh he could still solve it by putting Galloway in the centre now that Baines is back. Clearly he should be able to see what everyone else can - Robles should start. McCarthy has only been out a couple of games and why is he insisting on playing kone instead of Mirallas ? I believe all the above questions would be dealt with effectively by any other manager than ours who seems to permanently have the blinkers on. He's a one trick pony with Deulofeu and Lukaku and nothing else.

GK = Howard is totally useless but i think in Martinez' defence he has fallen victim to the "Distin" curse. He's held onto him for too long...then hoped that this season he wouldnt cost us.

Clearly he will be replaced but how to do that in January? I think Martinez has shown he can find top players and so lets see who he signs by the summer.

LB = He's sent Garbutt on loan to get games which makes sense and yet seen Galloway (who he signed) put in some fantastic performances for us...Oviedo and Baines as senior players have both basically been injured all season....Baines is still getting back to fitness.

They also dont have anyone ahead of them to help defensively, Kone/Mirallas? Unless Cleverley is played out of position...

CB -- Cant really judge Mori just yet as he needs time to adapt to the league, country etc. With a 21 year old centre back and Mori they are always going to be prone to errors...in the same vein as Lukaku having a season last year to develop these two also need time to develop as well.

RB --Coleman has been injured and now getting back to form.

Add in the loss of McCarthy and his poor form at the start of the season and Barrys lack of pace and im not sure what youre expecting really?

So many mitigating factors. I think myself they need

1- Mori and Galloway to have the time to develop into premier league centre backs.

2- Partnership to develop with Mori and Stones.

3-- McCarthy in defensive midfield + another centre midfielder signed.

4-- A far better keeper to give them confidence

We have a team with good defenders individually but a manager who has them set up as a useless unit. His teams have no real battle in them. You have to win ugly on the premier leagu, Utd under Fergie were masters. The total football he tries to play is a joke. we hardly play well for 90 mins.
Which manager would be this low with the squad available? Not many.
Good managers get the best with what they have to work with......anything outside the top 7 at the end of the season especially with no europa league and regardless of a cup win then he has under performed. We almost have to score 3 to get ourselves a win these days.
He obviously considers Howard as his number one whether or not we agree with this, and for the upcoming semi I bet he will play Robles. So for a semi he is basically not fielding what he considers his strongest team. For me he is a total fake and we ridiculed the RS with Brenda for this..... Open your eyes boys he is a clown.

There's some people making a holy show of themselves over this result.

I cant wait until after we get the points against Newcastle. The vaults are bulging as it is.

It doesn't make a huge difference if we win a game is it. Win the next three PL games and we can say that is a good starting point for redemption.

Mori -- Look at Man City, they signed Otamendi and also Mangala for £70mil+. I think we need to give him a season to settle in.

If we had signed Zouma (rated when he signed for Chelsea as potentially world class) or even Aymeric Laporte would you be as hard on them even though they are young players developing? I think Mori needs to be afforded the same consideration as someone adapting....

Do you really think after playing so many games at left back that Galloway can seamlessly step in next to Stones in the centre and form a top partnership?

Mirallas and Kone -- Neither would protect the defence and mirallas has been very poor last two games other than a goal laid on a plate by Barkley. We need another player there.

McCarthy was out of form then started looking back to normal and got injured. He has been playing centre midfield anyway so Barry would be the defensive midfielder and he has zero pace....

Robles -- Yes he should start and i am suspecting something sinister behind the scenes with Howard now. Maybe Martinez is afraid he will destroy morale if hes dropped and cause problems...who knows.

Not sure about the "one trick pony" comment, he also tried to sign Yarmolenko and i think we will see another LW brought in soon.

I've been a big supporter of his but something has to change or he is going to lose his job!

Firstly the goalkeeper situation, his blind faith in Howard who has been getting worse with every passing game and I think offers the defenders in front of him no confidence what so ever, which then leads to a lot of our problems at the back needs sorting out straight away.

His big problem is not changing players who are badly out of form, prime example was Naismith last season no matter how bad he played he always started and it is the same with Kone at the moment, he is having no impact on the game and we are becoming predictable in our play again as we are trying to force everything down the right hand side, so when Deulofeu has an off day like yesterday we look shot of ideas.

Martinez needs to have a big think on dropping some of these players or the fans which are now turning will give him hell.

let me reiterate:
Big win for us. 3-0.

  • They will be taken seriously (half the success they've had is through opposition underestimating them)
  • We've got the sort of mobile defence that will snuff out their threat on the break
  • They're missing two of their five ever-presents - Drinkwater and Huth. Drinkwater, in particular, will be a massive miss as he's the pivot of that side from defence to attack
  • They're really not that good. The defence looks suspect, and with Huth absent it'll only get more flakey.
  • We are VERY tough to beat, as the form guide will tell you.
  • We are in the middle of a run of form that creates lots of chances and sooner or later they'll again (S'land/Villa) end up being taken and burying some team.
We'll win this for sure. The only question is by how much. Leicester are coming down to earth with a massive bump tomorrow

...I suggest best you stop flailing my friend, and rein in your arrogance ...and expectation

Have you been reading John Dunne or Shakespeare before bedtime, or is your vocabulary really that archaic? Maybe just trying a little too hard to gain creedance or favour - just argue your point, you'll be surprised how many people read your posts instead of just glossing through them if you do mate.

There's a few nagging concerns:

-Persisting with Howard
-Persisting with out of form players
-Lack of defending from corners
-Looking impotent from our own set pieces
-Inability to play more than 45 minutes of good togger
-Subbing much too late

All need addressing. The problems in themselves aren't insurmountable, but does he seem to be actively learning or taking any steps to rectify them? I'm not convinced he is. I think he's playing the ignorance card, you've been unlucky lads, just keep doing what you're doing etc. He needs to start looking like he knows what's going wrong.

Where do you reckon we'll finish?

OK, we hear you. Being the eloquent chap you are could you please give us an overview ( short and in modern prose) of how you believe our Club can and will elevate itself into the Club you expect/demand without making fanciful claims. A realistic blueprint if you like for us to follow.

Hi mate, is their a reason that the only two absences from posting on this forum you've had in the past two months just happened to be the period after we beat Aston Villa and Sunderland and for every single other game during that period you were on and posting straight away after the results? Mostly negative stuff - well actually - entirely negative stuff?

Some would call that really strange behaviour for an Evertonian to actually stay clear of the forum during the only two very good results we had yet always make sure your here on a poor result?

Would advise next good result we get that you log on and maybe post it would make you look a lot less obvious

Yes we are but we really need to harden the fudge up. We are throwing points and our best chance of a top 4 finish in years through naivety and tactics.
I like RM but I think that he needs to be judged at the end of this season. With our squad we should be top 6 and European qualification. If we get into or win a cup then I would cut him more slack but that has to be the base expectation. No more excuses.
We're at the halfway stage and like many 3-4 points off 5th and 6th place. We tend to be stronger on the back half of the season than the first and several of the teams in and around the same pack like Palace, West Ham, Watford etc will undoubtedly not keep up that form season-long. So, I'd say we're pretty much where you say you want us to be aren't we?

Mate if you look back I posted straight away after the palace game praising the players so you're wrong about only posting negative stuff.
