Roberto Martinez discussion

Quite. The unit. And one key component of said unit aint doing that great.
True. But you pointed towards if the keeper is crap at crosses then the whole defence is void!

But as a unit they should work on protecting the keeper and his weeknesses just like the whole team should with each others weeknesses and not just work on passing it about.

I reckon we will win it too. Martinez is going to etch his name in the club's history. It's just a shame that there's actually some people who support the club who'd hate it to happen. No, I cant fathom it either.

Fingers crossed mate for the semis and even though there's a fair few who would like to see the back of Martinez I think it's safe to say we all want Everton to win.

Everyone's just got differing opinions especially with a poor run of results lately there's a lot of frustration and it's to be expected.

See how we get on at Newcastle anyway mate and take things from there

lol are you a bureaucrat in your day to day? your ability to negotiate shifting ground, whilst having tether to only pragmatic pier, suggest you would make a fine one.
It's called consistency mate. While others bounce off the wall from each result to the next, some of us take a longer and more even handed approach.

As you know, loads on here were taking the piss a few weeks back when we were going well and saying I was way off by suggesting a 60+ point season was a very good return for us...I was told this was way too conservative. But it now looks like the realistic objective points wise.

My expectations were and still are: 60+ points plus a good cup run (already secured).

Me? I'm very serene about it all and laughing me bollocks off at this lot....

You can clone 2 Baresi and we'll still end up with a clueless defense. Its not about who plays for us, it's about how we discipline we are and how much we wanted to win the ball back 10 to 20 yards from our penalty area. Defend is all about discipline and having the determination to run after the ball and try and win it back even if 80% of the time it might not be successful. Enforce this discipline higher up the pitch and the defense will face with less pressure every single game. It's all about effort and discipline. This is basic football, something that Martinez never appreciate.
more hyperbole. you want to talk about basic football while glossing over the fact our most experience defender who also happens to be the team captian would make a difference for us in terms of holding onto leads and committing silly mistakes?

Love this stuff bout building a squad. Unfortunately football has changed. You need a quick build or the players will move on if success is not coming. This was our chance and we have blown it. Poor decisions by our manager has been the main reason. He put together a lovely squad in fairness to him but he can't manage it. Poor keeper who is done for last 2 years and he keeps playing him. He plays with one winger when the system does not get results. He plays players like kone who can have 1 good game in 3 and thinks that that's champs league material. I mean come on its ain't brain surgery. Our decent players will be gone by summer 2017 and we will be back to square 1 and brown shoes will be moved on after failing to deliver on promises. Can he win the cup ... no because he will fail due to the same mistakes he has made above

If a keeper has a weakness, then that is a problem, be is crosses, distribution, commanding his box, communication, etc.

That will affect the defensive unit.

In the same way that if a keeper is ace at all those, then lesser defenders can look ace because of the keeper.

Eh? What interview? Care to share it and the alarm bells it rang?
the main everton forum. Listen mate, I've had very good people report to me, very smart and competent people...and I know when I see the 1%s...Martinez isn't. I like the man and I'd keep him in the Everton fold, but he isn't what you purport him to be

The 1% make great mangers...RM isn't one. Sorry @davek, he's a good bloke and will get better with experience...but football managerial greatness isn't in his DNA

Most Blues I talk to outside of the forum are aware of that.
I think Martinez is currently a good manager, he has the capability of being a very good one, but I don't think he'll ever be a great one.

I believe the technical term is "discrediting the witness"
Just so I have this right. You're discrediting me by vaulting me in suggesting a manager that has THAT Newcastle squad/team the same points we are behind the 'holy grail' of 5th placed Man UTD?

Bit of a paradox.

Great vaulting on a par with the other day, at least this didn't take you about an hour.

Agreed. But a keeper can also looking amazing behind a well oiled back line too IMO.

Which we don't have at the mo due to the manager IMO.
