Everton defender Leighton Baines: 'We're great going ...

"Baines has confirmed that Everton spent part of last week working on defending set-pieces but admits they will have to do more.

“Nobody is getting anxious when balls come into the box but we worked on it during the week,” he said.

“It got to the point where we had to touch on it and so we did some work on it but unfortunately we conceded again and is something for us to work on.

“You miss people like Jags who go and put their head on things but we have other guys who are just as capable.

“It is something we are going to have to go back and work on.”

If RM had specific training sessions toward set piece defence, I genuinely think the team would pick up on the fact there is something not right currently. This would exacerbate the situation as they would feel pressure the next game there's a set piece. The last thing you want to impose on Everton's mentality is pressure as they crumble to bits.
By avoiding emphasis on set piece defence, The players are spared feeling under any pressure.
I wonder if you're actually being serious or not. There's pressure on them already as they are conceding regularly from them; they'll notice that.

Simply ignoring the situation and hoping it goes away may occasionally work, but only in the short-term. In the long-term it undermines.

If there's a significant problem then it should be addressed and players should expect that, otherwise it removes accountability and expectations.

"Don't worry Tim that you're doing awful in goal... you'll get better eventually. It's the law of averages". No discussion about the impact this has.

I'm not saying being draconian and lambaste them all, yet a frank and objective assessment can be productive and eventually improves the team.

If you never acknowledge that there are areas which need improvement, then how can you progress? As by default it must already be acceptable.

Imagine if our teachers in school didn't tell us we need to work harder and improve our writing; we'd all be illiterate now. At least we'd be happy...

He's not being serious mate.

@deipnosophist and @Chang Elephant are just trying to be smart arses. Most people have them on ignore.
