Did he? I know there was a rumour but don't recall that.

He never said it, as far as I remember. It was just a rumour.

And tbh, I really don't know if he'd 'improve' a team in the bottom half. I can't think of one side in the Prem where he'd be able to walk into the first team.

He's Championship standard and has the ability to be more, but unfortunately doesn't have the consistency.

That's more my thinking.

For a team in the bottom half would you really want a McGeady type? Battling relegation I'm not sure if pick a tricky (alleged!) winger.

Maybe a promotion chasing championship team? Middlesbrough maybe?

Why? He's absolute toilet.

I'm not sure as while he's got talent, as shown by his occasional nice goal or cross, his overall application has been pretty abysmal while here.

His worth ethic is conspicuous as well. Would Stoke or Southampton take him? No as he's not good enough for a squad of their relevant calibre.

Swansea? Not from that I've seen. Sunderland? They've got better options in those roles. Newcastle would never take him either.

That only leaves the likes of Norwich, Bournemouth, West Brom or Villa for whom he could go to.

Still, I'm unsure if he'd give the consistency of application needed to perform in the league on a regular basis. Would he make them better?

I genuinely see him as a Championship player, as there his obvious skill will flourish while his consistency will be less of an issue. That or Celtic.

Maybe I'm being slightly critical, however he's never really succeeded in a squad with reasonable talent which should make it easier for him.

you forget he is a fast direct international winger who wouldn't cost a bomb and he has experience as well.

In fact come next month he could be quite an attractive prospect to a relegation threatened team. I personally don't rate him either but I'd like to think we aren't comparable to villa/West brom/Norwich and the like.

We aren't, but you are presuming he's always been a player good enough for this club and this league. I don't think he is.
personally I didn't think he would be after his few months after signing. He was cheap enough and was martinez's borini, the player they always wanted to sign. It turns out he hasn't been good enough and thankfully he isn't playing because of that. We can sell him for a small profit and that's that.

But to be fair, the Mcgeady who left celtic looked to be a very good player in the making so perhaps he was worth the gamble?

However he never really performed at Moscow though, but playing in the Russian league isn't easy so it's a case of swing and roundabouts.

Basically it was a risk which hasn't paid off, but as you said it was for a small price so was arguably worth taking. We may also get some money...

It's only easy with hindsight to say it wasn't a good risk worth taking.

haha on the basis of his first few games and his price tag I thought Billy was going to be a massive player for us.

Every transfer is a gamble though, someone pays 150 million out for Messi this summer and after getting kicked to bits by Stoke and the like he might be a little bit of a let down. Or he could single handedly win the league for them, who knows!

I think in comparison Mcgeady is in the same bracket as lennon, so 5-6 million at most if we sell in Jan.

I'd be gobsmacked if we got anywhere near £5m to £6m for him.

But we got £6m for Victor Anichebe do anything is possible I guess.

I'd be surprised if we get any more than £2-4m for him, but then with the extra TV money and inflated prices you at a push go for £5m.

It's a shame as he seems to have such panache when on the ball (step overs and what not), but then can't go past a pensioner let alone a man.

Lennon is seeming a more concerning signature all the time.

I'm thinking more of the Jan window value. In the summer it's would be 3-4 ala lennon but teams who need to gamble for survival will pay the million more to grab a player.

I like lennon tbh. He is a good squad player to have, fast and can cause problems for us. We would see the best of him if we used him to stretch defences rather than to simply slot in to give that player a 10 minute rest.

again for the price he is an option rather than first choice.

Won't get sod all for mcgeady maybe one or two million. Although the combined cash of the likely departures of him, Naismith and possibly Mirallas would allow the manager the money to bring one or two faces in.

I can't see a GK coming in as martinez has a blindspot for Howard, but for me a second striker should be priority, an injury to Rom and we are goosed.

I agree with the option than the first choice. He harries opposition with his tenacious and enthusiastic movement and also isn't shy of defending.

However, I'm starting to worry about what his final output is. Maybe with Delboy offering assists we're being spoilt, but I can't see him doing that.
