Roberto Martinez discussion

You have to give Martinez credit for the squad he's built. Honestly, I think our weakest positions are right-back (sorry, Coleman just isn't the same as a year or two ago) and GK.
We have a fantastic bunch of players, but tactically he is weak. Wrong changes or changes too late to have any impact. He's still a relatively young manager, though, so tactics could be developed in him with experience.
Compare him to Alex Ferguson - Fergie joined Utd. at age 45 and because the club stuck with him and the two developed together we all know what an incredible force become of it.
Martinez is 42 and while it would be pretty foolish to say 'he's destined to become as good as Fergie' you have to look at the time Fergie spent at Utd. and think "perhaps if we stuck with Martinez for a longer period of time, he and the club can mature beyond bringing in a new manager?"

Football has changed since the 80's and finances are a much bigger concern. We shouldn't keep him if we end a season near the bottom 4/5 because we can't ever risk going down - it would be a huge blow.

He's still got some proving to do. In my eyes in January he needs to strengthen our bench. We have great attacking players in Del, Barkley, etc and it works well in the first half before their defence can learn and adjust, but when we're not attacking our midfield lacks dominance. Gibson and Mirallas aren't dominating players. Barry and McCarthy are to some extent but we need more of it, able to change our team composition to suit the flow of the match. Just like against Bournemouth, our defence and attack struggled to link up in the second half once we start getting closed down, at which point are great attacking strength is useless if we can't hold the middle of the pitch. If we could have brought on players who are more defensive minded and could help when we're being pressed high, then perhaps we could have regained control of today's match.

Don't ask me who to bring in though. I'm no talent scout. I'm a 21 year old thinking he's smart sitting at a keyboard.

That's great, well done.

I don't see your point like in response to the below;
View attachment 15914

Despite your counting, most in today's squad were brought in by Moyes.

I see 8 players there that are not Moist players.

Today's starting eleven plus the subs :-

Played or signed under Moyes

Howard
Baines,
Stones,
Coleman,
Barkley,
Gibson,
Mirallas,
Naismith,
Osman.

Signed by Martinez

Mori,
Barry (c),
Cleverley,
Kone,
Deulofeu,
Lukaku,
Joel,
Lennon,
Galloway

I make that a 9-9 score draw so you're both wrong.

With the exception of Lukaku not that impressive in terms of who we have brought in.

I don't know why I don't start putting bets on every Everton game, I just knew they would score right after half time. We've dropped 6 points in 3 games that we should of quite easily won. I don't know whether we are unlucky, or we just aren't good enough at taking chances. We were very unlucky against Palace, however today and at Bournemouth we can have no excuses. You just can't miss 5 decent opportunities and expect to win the game.

Good post.
Think we lack leaders out on the pitch. Players who won't let the others' heads go down if we concede or if we don't score and won't let them get complacent if it looks easy. You often see top teams dominating games but not killing the game off. The opposition equalises and it just pisses them off so they go down the other end and score again. It's a mental thing imo.

Excellent post mate.
On the defensive midfielder, we're missing the option of Besic at the moment, so Martinez plainly hoped to have him available for that role.
