Roberto Martinez discussion

Not too sure mate. I think we're too focussed on playing attractive, attacking football in training that we're abandoning the focus on the more concerning art of football, defending. We just look so shaky at the back.
Would you be prepared to sacrifice some of our attacking play to shore up defensively?

Exactly. It was corn. I voted to skew the numbers. Check any poll I vote in. I generally vote for the option which will make the most fume.

Welcome to 2010 mate. You want to visit us more than Twitter sometimes.

Nice try.

Don't make me dig out the text messages with you wanting Moyes back.

Or the Twitter stats showing @thechicoazul with a higher tweet per day rate than @GrandOldTeam.

Aye, it's a significant problem. We can rave all we like about Stones, Fumes, Jags, Baines, Seamus, Galloway etc but they're conceding goals and this isn't due to their ability. The problem is poor defensive setup, lack of focus and sticking with a clearly past-it keeper who has little command of his 6-yard box.

Responsibility: Martinez.

Really? You think the squad is at top 4 level?

With Howard and Kone as starters?

No competition for Lukaku?

I'm amazed.

I think this squad is more than capable of achieving a top 4 finish. We're too far gone I this season, though.

Set pieces, both defending and attacking from then. I think that is the big concern for most fans.

Absolutely, we are completely different to last season with not that much change personnel wise.

He's turned it around this season and we are playing some beautiful stuff, the frustration comes from not killing a game off, which can't be fully Robertos fault

We had 21 points after 16 games last season. 23 after 16 this time around.

He hasn't turned it around at all. We are a lot better going forward, but still a completely unbalanced side. If you look back to the first games of last season (Leicester, Arsenal, Chelsea) they weren't all that different from our last few games. After the Chelsea game, Martinez then tried to sacrifice some attacking play in favour of a more solid defence and that didn't go too well.

So if he addresses set pieces we can challenge for top four?

In that case I shall remain positive.

As inpatient as some fans are, you can bet the players who that good times rely on are even less patient. They expect/need European football.

The European footie is the key, doesn't have to be Champions League, qualifying for the Europa next season would give us a fighting chance of keeping this team together.
