Roberto Martinez discussion

There's a few ways to look at it though.

We were great season 1. Martinez took some plaudits.
Poor season 2. Martinez took some hefty criticism.
Bit better season 3 (although not perfect clearly). Should he be congratulated for fixing the broken season 2? Or not?

Someone called it earlier;

We are on the verge of something good, but we are also on the verge of seeing another opportunity wasted

The manager is never, and shouldn't be sacked now.

But questioning him is just as valid now, than it was last season. I dismissed concerns last season - he's been here longer, no Europa etc.

What I'm prodding at and admittedly, playing devils advocate is asking how long we can tolerate Everton underperforming under the guise of "Good times are coming..."

As inpatient as some fans are, you can bet the players who that good times rely on are even less patient. They expect/need European football.

The same sort of mistakes in most games.

It shows to me that he isn't addressing a glaring problem.
So if he addresses these mistakes we will achieve a top four finish?

Excellent, some well needed positivity .

So which mistakes do you think are most critical and Martinez should focus on?

Has he ever in his career shown that he can organise a side to be solid defensively?

It's all very well looking good going forward, but if you give away better chances than you create game onngame, then ultimately you'll be dropping points on a consistent basis.

Anything happens to Lukaku and we're in serious trouble.

I think this squad is more than capable of achieving a top 4 finish. We're too far gone I this season, though.

Set pieces, both defending and attacking from then. I think that is the big concern for most fans.

There's some truth to both sides of the argument if we're all honest.

I've not been a fan of the 'good times round the corner' chat. I'd rather it just happen.

I just didn't expect this season to be much different to how it has gone so far I guess. Baring in mind how the last went.

I never wanted Moyes back, but keep it on man.

Martinez saying "football is cruel "in an interview after the game. What's cruel Robbie the fact that you have built a team with a soft under belly or that a premiership team at home refused to play abysmally for the second 45 minutes and your team bottled it.

We've underperformed a bit in the League so far, not massively, but the number of draws shows we're not as good at getting results as you'd hope.

The thing with Martinez is that he's moulded our squad into what it is now, a bloody exciting team to watch with bags of talent in it who aren't afraid to go out onto the pitch and show the ability they have. If he wasn't in charge, that might never have happened. The flip side is that we're sloppy in defence, which is why people were questioning goals conceded against S'land and Villa. It's easy enough to sort the latter out, a lot of mistakes we're making could be ironed out on the training pitch, but, to a certain extent, our gung ho way of attacking with Coleman and Baines getting so far forward will always leave us vulnerable.

It is one thing being caught out and left vulnerable at the back when the full backs have been attacking Wooly, that is a risk we have to live with as we enjoy these breathtaking attacking displays......it is the goals conceeded when the defence is suposedly set up to defend a corner which is absolutely killing us.

The failure to defend corners has cost us a goal in each of the last three games.....goals which were the difference between winning and drawing :(

Couldnt have setup the team better today (apart from Robles for Howard).

Cant be faulted for 6+ oportunities in 1st half.

Nothing wrong with the defence apart from their nervousness when clearing and not knowing what Howard would do next...had the feeling they wanted to kick it out of his hands at times.

Norwich score but yet we still created a few very good chances 2nd half.

Kone and Howard need replacing. Another Deulofeu on the left...cant double mark both of them.

Martinez puts on Mirallas like a lot of people wanted and he looks like a mcgeady clone...also no Naismith so could be theres already a deal with Norwich in place....thought he would have thrown him on.

He needs time for 2 more players in at GK and LW and also to improve the bench...no back up striker.

Seems that alot of people think just because we have a few top young players we should be in the champs league places already...with a bit of luck we could be but he needs more time to add players and for the young lads to get experience.
