Would it actually look like that to the human eye or have those photos been massively manipulated?

I reckon you wouldn't be able to pick out the stars like that with a normal exposure. The range in the photo would be extreme, the blown out lava and the under exposed stars/cloud.

To shoot stars like that you have to open the aperture for much longer, which is why the cloud is slightly blurry, but staring into lava like that would really blow it out.

I think we are looking at multiple exposures, ie two or more images overlaid to make one photo. Could be massively wrong like lol

Yeah was thinking that, done a bit of astrophotography in the past. Still lovely photos like.

I thought they were dodgy as well.......beautiful nonetheless........
