Tim Howard

I'm sticking to my guns on this one as ive always done with him...putting his playing ability to one side:

A-- He's written lies in a book about a fellow professional (Friedel) and had to remove them due to them being libelous and slanderous. This alone is pretty shocking.

B-- He's stated now in several interviews how he doesnt care about any criticism. The way he came across in each interview as arrogant and smug doesn't sit right with me and anyone doing their job to the best of their ability should use criticism to improve themselves.

C-- The latest comments about not caring what us fans think. Well, from a purely business perspective he would be sacked as an employee for making comments that he doesnt care what customers think.

Moving on from that onto his playing ability....well, its all been done to death really. As for his personal life he's doing tattoos and getting girls to have abortions despite supposedly being a strict christian....seems to be a bit of a fraud/hypocrite to me.

I just dont like the man. He's not the sort i want at the club....compare and contrast with Tim Cahill for example.

A's a fair point, but B & C are typical of lots of people in all walks of life who, at least on the surface, appear massively self confident to the point where they seem supremely arrogant.

In reality, he's probably riddled with insecurities and it's all a bluff. In fact I'd wager he's a pretty screwed up human being, but talented individuals often are screwed up. I must admit I find his private life and his religious beliefs hard to square but that's really his business, not mine.

If he plays well, I don't really care if he appears to be arrogant and doesn't seem to care about what fans think. His job is to stop the ball going into the net.

So basically he's an abomination of a human being for not giving a toss about your opinion and others sending him abuse on the internet. It seems he has the backing of the team and manager so why should he care about external criticism?

I like that we are seen as somewhat a "family /friendly club".

Players over the years enjoying their football with a smile on their face, Martinez has grasped this and we can see a really strong knit group which has continued in this vein since players like Cahill etc really promoted us in a positive light.

Personally i think as an individual his behaviour and comments have let him down since the world cup. He appeared to be a good guy but i think it was just a media persona and were seeing what hes really like now...

The icing on the cake /nail in the coffin for me was the comment about supporters /customers.

All well and good taking the compliments but he clearly doesnt care about his own "supporters" who put the money in his pocket.

Think you're right that he's a sandwich short of a picnic and perhaps thats why Martinez mollycoddles him.

Still need to get in another quality keeper in summer. Don't mind him as back up/ keeper for the cups. Over 38 games in the league he has more than a few shockers however where his weaknesses are exposed and exploited.

The next match would be the perfect one to drop Howard. The team is flying and the defence is starting to look the part. Unless we give Robles a run of games we can't be decisive in January. Nows the time if you ask me.

So Charles you think it's a good idea to drop the guy who's got the 4th best clean sheet record in the league because the teams playing well and the defence hasn't been bad?

Do you always manage teams like Leyton Orient on Football Manager? Barry Fry must be petrified he'll lose his job to you mate.

To be honest today would of been a better day, to play Robles if he wanted to try something like that, maybe he could play next week, then vs Boro, 3 on the run, 3 clean sheets possible or at least wins, then Roberto would drop him and put Howard back in the side!!

Why would you drop him the week after a 4-0 win. For all his flaws I'm happy that we don't have a manager that does stupid things like that.

Suggesting the perfect time to change the spine of the team is when we're playing well is total nonsense.

It's great to see Howard regaining form in the past few matches. For awhile there, I was afraid we might have spend 10-15 mill on a proven, experienced goal keeper in January. Everton's best bet is to keep bringing in young talent and training them up. If Howard can keep this up, it may allow us to spend a few mill on a young stud and work him slowly into games (what we should have tried to do in the summer).
