Tim Howard

People are forgetting that even if we signed Butland 3 years ago, he still wouldn't be able to get in the team because of Martinez's Howard fetish

He hasn't been treated like crap for 8 years, he's been decent for around 8 years and rubbish since the 2014 WC.

I do not feel we have a problem with US players - why would we? We loved Landon Donovon, Brian McBride was appreciated greatly with many fans wanting to keep him, and we even liked Joe-Max Moore even though he wasn't the best player.

Also, most feel that Tim Howard has been good for us, but isn't anymore - I wouldn't read any more into it than that. You can't honestly justify being annoyed at people being frustrated at a player being hammered because he isn't good enough
simply because of his nationality. I'm British but I'm not bothered if for example Barkley loses form and is slated and dropped.

We need the best players playing well - not sentimental team selections.

Where have I stated anything about his nationality? Please dig through the vaults Grouch...he's received dogs abuse on here since day one for being ex United more than anything. Never good enough for Everton. It's so similar to the Martinez nonsense that goes on on here.

Just like Neville, Gibson, Saha and Cleverley all had as well.

They all made a lot of people eat there words for the majority (Cleverley will also) of the time they were here, but as soon as they had a bad game or a dip in form the usual suspects turned and claimed they had never good enough. Didn't matter their nationality nor does it matter Howard's it's just the Howard haters who like to mention he's an American as far I can see on here, for some reason they like to use it as a reason berate him at times.

You always bang on about him being American as being something that's held against him. The fact is that people dislike him because of his performances and his personality.

Summed it up perfectly.

I hate United as much as anyone but there's no denying they've been a level above us for 25 years. The fact they've not worked out at United means nothing to me. I judge any player on his merits.

He actually had one (?) incredible season at United. Over the span of his PL career he has been a great keeper. The issue is his decline and seemingly unflappable self-confidence/arrogance shown of late.

That's the problem DM and RM have done the same thing with Tim its ridiculous as I have seen some great Everton players dropped under other Blues Managers - one Keeper was Gordon West who was miles better than Tim! -for Andy Rankin all keepers have a form Blip but evidently not Tim Howard which most fans know in the last 18 months he has been on the decline for Robles not to keep his place after three clean sheets and a very impressive MOTM league cup performance for RM to come out 5 minutes after the game to announce he was dropped for the next game was pathetic imo!
Tims my no 1 its laughable the mistakes he makes, his six yard box phobia! - even his distribution is poor!

Not so much you in particular, but in general mate.

In the main, I feel many have been supportive of him, up until Robles was dropped after performing well last year. That seems to me to have been the time when opinion really turned against TH.

I supported TH when he came all the way up to about 2011 when I felt his form begin to dip and it has continued to decline from there. Quite simply at this moment he's not good enough. I don't understand this argument of 'well some people have just wanted him out since the beginning therefore he shouldn't be dropped' or 'Martinez needs experience in the back line so even though Robles is a better keeper Howard has to play' or the best of the lot when responding to the burning question of why didn't Martinez but a keeper in the summer 'yeah but Howard is better than Robles therefore we don't need a new keeper'. All bizarre and illogical arguments.

Is he good enough currently for where we want to be? No = get a new keeper. It really couldn't be any simpler than this.
