We are considering signing Ron Vlaar

I think if he passes a medical we should sign him, every team needs 4 CBs to account for injuries and rotation. He was a decent player before he got injured.
Yes I think so, as long as he's prepared not to be a dead cert to start.

It's not as if he was dismissed by Villa, he turned down their offer so they appear to have wanted to keep him.

He'll already know Cleverly maybe, has international experience and was club captain. He's free so it's low risk for a potentially decent back up player.

I'm in.

That's a good point but, on balance I'd still take him if he doesn't have knees made from blu-tak - Galloway may learn a lot from him.
that's my current thoughts, there aren't any (other than Jags) experienced central defenders at the Club at the moment.
just having one on each side should do wonders in training games and that can only improve the first team.

Was he?

i mean i know he played well in the WC but i heard no mention of him before that, as much as any other villa player anyway. Didn't watch them last season so did he have a good season in the poor defence? Genuine question like!

Obviously I didn't watch him as much as I would if he played for us, from what I seen (Mainly MOTD or any Sky games I watched) he seemed to be a commanding CB. Was captain for them, went to the World Cup, was strongly linked with Utd.

I don't think it would be an Alcaraz / Distin for his last season scenario.

Fair enough, can't comment on what i haven't seen him do so i can't slag him off for anything haha

Give him a deal til the end of the season with the option to extend it. If all goes well, extend and have him, Jags, Stones and Mori battle for the CB places while Galloway goes on loan to play CB and Garbutt will cover Baines at LB.

"Concrete" Ron named so because he turns slower than concrete sets.

Id be concerned if Martinez signs him now myself. We're only a few weeks away from the next transfer window and a possible loan of a better option.

It's got all the hallmarks of Alcaraz/Traore this and I'd of hoped he'd learnt from them previous mistakes.

He'd be a good signing, for 1,5 seasons. No risk really.

Galloway could go out on loan until end of season.

Honestly I've had it with Martinez if he signs Vlaar, even as a semi reasonable free addition to the squad as backup, it just isn't on and we should be demanding more from a team of Evertons stature.

Sorry but Martinez has to go before our conversion to mid table nobody's is complete. Utter clown.
