We are considering signing Ron Vlaar

Cant see it being true, unless jags is in a bad way.
Not a bad player and adds a bit of leadership to the squad something we lack sometimes , on a free worth looking at, not excited about it though.

A very good player and I don't remember him missing too much at Villa despite the injury record? If all goes to plan, we could have a mental month in January with 8 games (and even possibly 9) and cover at CB would be needed to keep players fresh. Give him a 18 month deal, little downside here.

Was he?

i mean i know he played well in the WC but i heard no mention of him before that, as much as any other villa player anyway. Didn't watch them last season so did he have a good season in the poor defence? Genuine question like!
Haven't seen a huge amount of him, but he has always impressed when I have seen him. Seems to play well against us, and was brilliant at the world cup.

He could be a useful squad player, but I just don't see where he would fit in unless Martinez doesn't rate Browning as highly as he used to?

Why not? Would allow Browning, Holgate or Pennington to go out on a loan in January to give them much needed experience. Maybe even Galloway to play centre half. Baines/Oviedo - Funes Mori/Jagielka - Stones/Vlaar - Coleman/Mattioni. He is ony 30 too. If it does not work out, we can likely still sell him for a profit.

i said we should go for him back in the summer. Now we've bought mori it's less of a priority. But like people have said, there's probably too much youth in that defence and this does sort of indicate jagielka's may be worse than feared.

with baines coming back i suppose galloway will have limited opportunities, so it's an extra chance to send him on loan, but in the same way it may hold back the youngsters' development. Wouldn't give mori a great feeling if he starts ahead of him. I'd verge on yes atm, but depends on the money involved. I like him though, think he's got the leadership we badly need back there at the moment. He's only got a couple of years left in football.

We've offered him 50K per week but he is holding out for 65K per week.

I'd swerve him personally.
For those wages, absolutely.

Mori and Stones need the chance to gel, so Vlaar would be third choice at best.

No chance.

Honestly I've had it with Martinez if he signs Vlaar, even as a semi reasonable free addition to the squad as backup, it just isn't on and we should be demanding more from a team of Evertons stature.

Sorry but Martinez has to go before our conversion to mid table nobody's is complete. Utter clown.

Spot on mate, well said. What has happened to this once great club. Makes me sick. Biggest joke since Antony Gardner, who was also signed as a backup and wasn't needed, but still, it's a joke. Get Joe Royle in now.

Reading views on here has slightly swayed me to signing him sure, as a back up. Don't believe we will like but if we do then it's not a terrible thing. I know i have read on here that he is good in the air as well which isn't a bad thing either.

Not for me. Was good in World Cup playing in a 3 man defense but not the same for villa .

Rather the young lads get a chance and free up the wages for attaching player and new deals for the younger players
