It was a bad tackle, sure. Payet gimping around for 20 minutes probably didn't help his cause and most likely that is what caused more damage.

As for the conspiracy guy saying Everton knew the ref doesn't give out many yellows or reds, Martinez wouldn't ask McCarthy to do it, he would have ran out Besic or some squad player to do it.

It's football, these things happen. Moaning about it won't fix his knee and putting all your eggs in the basket of an older player who has never played in the Prem isn't the smartest decision. Move on, nothing to see here.
 
I haven't seen the tackle as yet, I'm in Paris for the week so can't access coverage. Someone said on here that it was no worse than the tackle on Cleverley, if it was as bad then it was a red card. Cleverly was taken out.
