Roberto Martinez discussion

He's got the attack going great guns and the turn around for Kone has been phenomenal. He deserves credit for sticking with him and giving him the chance to get back to form

Our defending is horrid though

A better team would have really punished us today

Luckily, Sunderland are absolute cack

Still, a good 3 points but that defence needs serious work and I still stand firm to my belief that Martinez needs to delegate it to somebody else

Spot on. It is all about basic defending. We have non at the moment. Shadowing an opponent with the ball will not achieve anything unless you make an attempt to win it back. Basic football really.

Many people have been complaining the amount of crosses we've allowed without looking at the root cause of it.

Not caring how much we concede, as long as we outscore the other team. Much like how Newcastle was playing under Keegan first stint. Suicidal defending with absolute ruthless attacking football. Like what happen today.
Perhaps when we have a fit defence we could do something about it?

at the moment we've got a young star who was having a bad day, a young Argie still not used to English Football and who's had no time to get used to his defensive partner. Outside them we have Coleman who's not upto full fitness and has spent the week on the shitter with the squirts, a player playing only his second game back from a serious long term injury who was replaced by another young player, who's played well so far but has barely played with his corresponding CB.

Any chance we could reserve the sweeping statements about our defence until more than half of them are first choice and they are up to some sort of match fitness?

Our defence is in survival mode due to the injuries and the are coping well, but with the occasional lapse. That's to be expected. We just need to try to minimise the lapses and get our first choices back as quickly as possible.

Wasn't a sweeping statement by any means and I'm definitely not forming my opinion base on todays game alone. Do a little research on the average numbers of shots we had conceded and the number of crosses we had allowed the past 3 seasons and compare it to the previous 10. I've compile that stats a year ago and it won't take a scientist to know we're consistently maintaining the trend.
