Have you guys heard of Star Citizen?
The dude who created Wing Commander (Chris Roberts) has gone off on his own and setup a Kickstarter trying to raise about $5 mill to make his dream game. It surpassed all expectations and he has raised over $90 million to date.
There is lots of controversy, and with good reason as some people are seeing it as a blatant money grab. You can buy the ingame ships, right now for real money, rather than wait until the game is released and 'grind' for in game currency to buy them.
I think this is pretty bleedin' ridiculous, considering some of the ships can get pretty pricey. A lot of (self-titled) "Star Citizens" often say crap like 'oh yeah, but you can buy the Aurora for only $35...." I thought they were taking the Michael with a $350 ship.
But herein lies the joke. They just released a science ship that you can buy in modules.....or buy it complete and save a few $$$.
How much you say???? $900. $900 USD.
For a virtual ship. In a game that hasn't been released yet.
El oh el.
The funny thing is, there are people out there who lap this up and enable this. I am all for supporting indie devs, but $900 of real actual currency for a ship that is currently a concept, in a game that might not even be released is a bit daft.

Looks cool though!
