John Stones transfer saga

I myself had posted that one possibility was that the board had requested Stones raise a Transfer Request. Martinez emphatically put that to bed last night.

As for your comment about SOS, I endorse this x100.

SOS tweet - "we know it was the board not you". So they force a player to hand in a transfer request, only to reject it? Tin foil stuff that I'm afraid

Yes but stones is more important to us on the pitch than the money. Who are we going to get realistically in the last week of the window to replace stones? Martinez says he always wants to come out of a window stronger, selling stones at this point we wouldn't. Agree to stones he can be sold after the euros next year when a price is met 40m? And then we have adequate time to sign reinforcements just like the RS have done with sterling.
I agree, and £40m wouldn't make me sell now.

However, my point (albeit hypothetical) was that there IS some price that would and should make us sell now. For example, let's take it to an unrealistic extreme and say that tomorrow Chelsea come in with an offer of £100m... we'd be lunatic not to sell.

Yes, we'd be weaker at CB for it (though we could sign a quality one with a fraction of that money) - but the knock on effects of the building it would allow us to do would be far greater than Stones's impact.

The quoted "realistic" fees for Stones wouldn't make me sell now - but there are figures that would do.

Yes it is, but fans react to what they see and hear. If they had heard Roberto's post match interview sooner the tension surrounding the player would have eased.

Indeed. It's a pity some don't consider that ramifications and the potential impact of their reactions though.

I mean clearly that guy on the video is gutted about Stones potentially leaving... so wtf was going through his head... "Oh I know, I'll call him a fkn rat and tell him to **** off, that'll definitely make him more willing to stay"

Then you will know that the right to unilaterally terminate a contract is subject to age and length of contract and can only be done outside the protected period.

Without playing sanction that's correct but there is provision within that article for just what happens if a player does unilaterally terminate a contract so yes it can happen inside the protected period that said you cannot terminate a contract at all during a playing season

My memory is that after seasons end and before 15/7 any player can give notice to end their contract .As you say age is an issue and length of contract is a major factor but what people don't understand is that a player can give notice walk away from a valid contract but will suffer football sanctions ie compensation and a four to six month ban

interesting the betting odds have changed in the past day, yesterday he was odds on to go to Chelsea and 7/2 to stay at Everton, now hes odds on (5/6) to stay and 11/10 to go. Not that they have a clue but it seems the stance we have held is starting to be believed by the bookies at least.

I personally think we should sell him now, if he doesn't want to be here screw him he can go as long as we get the £xxm we value him at

He'll never again be the darling of the Gladwys like he has been even if he does stay

Despite Martinez saying he will reject John Stones transfer request, I personally will be amazed if he is with us once the window shuts. And if he does stay, he will be gone in January.
