John Stones transfer saga

It is only natural for their to be an negative reaction towards stones (albeit only a handful of fans by all accounts) but if the stories of stones at the services is true, it only goes to show that to further his development the only place for him to do it would be at Everton. The lad is only 21 years old, and is understandably stressed at the moment. But can you imagine him in 2 months time playing for Chelsea in the champions league and making a mistake in an important game, the same media who have tried to engineer this move to happen, will be the first to call him a 30m flop! Not just cause it is Everton, but the best place to continue his development with us. John get rid of your agent and sign a new improved contract with us after the window has shut.

Exactly and they'll be the same ones on his back should England's Euros campaign go wrong.

He's at the right club, with the right gaffer who will nuture his game. In 12/24 months, he can move abroad to an actual "Top club".

I honestly don't see how we can sell after Roberto's interview last night, absent Chelsea coming in with some utterly stupid offer (David Luiz money or higher)

That's my worry. They'll leak something else in a day or two to the media. Watch.

Roberto has put pressure on the board by continually saying "Not for sale", I hope they back him up and don't waiver.

It's frustrating to say the least, that everybody has created this contrast between Martinez & the board. Who's to say Martinez & Kenwright haven't sat down a long time ago and decided they are not going to sell & when Martinez has been going public to declare this, he's speaking with confidence because he knows he's being backed, as him and the chairman have the same ambition?

We sold Fellaini for a high fee, because the money was too good to refuse for a player that didn't fit the managers system anyway.

We kept hold of Baines & We'll keep hold of Stones too. Don't let the conspiracy theorists turn you against our great club & our great chairman.

When a video comes out of one of them nailing a 30 yard screamer, then we'll get them footballers wages.

On topic: After becoming resigned to him leaving earlier in the week, think it's all but certain he stays now. Roberto has put pressure on the board by continually saying "Not for sale", I hope they back him up and don't waiver.

I really don't understand, personally, how you think that the kind of statement Martinez came out with last night wasn't pre-agreed and supported by the Board. Do you really believe Bob just came out with that on the spot and hopes the board will go along?

I have no objection to Stones getting a bit of abuse. Better Everton players have had it over the years and as for the fans who allegedly booed him, well they will be still supporting this club a long time after Mr Stones has moved on.

I don't know if i'd class that as a worry.

Don't get me wrong, I badly want Stones to stay - moreso than I have any player for a long time - but there IS a fee at which we'd be daft not to sell. Don't know what that number is, but every player in the world does have their price.

I believe Roberto's stance has been clear since Chelsea's initial interest, what I don't believe is that the board don't have a price they're willing to part with Stones at.

EVERY board of EVERY club in the world has a price for EVERY player at which they'd part with them. With the POSSIBLE exception of Lionel Messi - but even then, i'd imagine there's probably a figure that would make them sell.

Also, don't be mistaken, there will be (and should be!) a price at which Martinez would sanction his sale too.

Yes but stones is more important to us on the pitch than the money. Who are we going to get realistically in the last week of the window to replace stones? Martinez says he always wants to come out of a window stronger, selling stones at this point we wouldn't. Agree to stones he can be sold after the euros next year when a price is met 40m? And then we have adequate time to sign reinforcements just like the RS have done with sterling.
