John Stones transfer saga

Seeing as the smoke and mirrors game keeps getting pulled up - is that UTD article just a ploy to drive the price up and scare Mourinho?

Dont think i could handle Jones's face all next season lollollollol

Martinez rejected Villa and Liverpool due to board intervention in what would have been his playing squad.

Okay mate. Even if that's true, so what?

Maybe Martinez will resign, who knows?

But resigning 2/5ths of the way through his "phenomenal project" is a different kettle of fish to not taking a job offer.

Of course he can't buta number on here suggest that to teach him a lesson as it where he should be banished to the reserves or whatever and in those circumstances and assuming he didn't refuse to play and or train or even if he did and the club hadn't followed the correct discipliary process then he would be able to walk away
I think the shouts to "banish him to the reserves" assume that he's refused to play or pulled a Lescott-style protest in an attempt to force a move.

Obviously no one wants to force him not to play if he's willing to and continues to remain focused.

Then if he did not refuse to play, and he played to his normal standards there would be no need for him not to play.

The banishing to the corner of Finch Farm would only be a result of him refusing to play, train properly etc etc.

If they were to accept his transfer request then the board would stay quiet about it and not really release a statement would they?

On the other hand if they turned it down and were trying to persuade him to stay they wouldn't confirm it until they had persuaded him to retract the request.

It really is a dangerous game. I have offered to buy businesses from asset strippers and almost always they want their cake and eat it.

The shareholders are "having their cake" by not contributing financially to the development of the business.

In an environment where the capex required, by a future incumbent, to compete grows almost exponentially it's really difficult to see them (the current shareholders) being offered "their cake" as well.

Selling Stones makes this strategy more risky in my view.

We've been down this road before, so I wont labour the point. But I think in this industry prospective owners who can take us forward are going to be more accepting of businesses outside of the elite businesses who sell talent. The damage is done on infrastructure, there's practically nothing left to monetize and therefore nothing that would further alienate buyers.

I don't think they did all that, that's mad.

Rather when presented with the chance to turn £3m into £30m+ in 2 years, I think they'd say yes. But they know they're under pressure, so would coerce Stones into handing the request in, to save face. Either way they get the dosh, but instead of the flak coming their way, it's aimed at 'Judas John'.

Not saying this is what's happened, just that I wouldn't put it past them.

But what would Stones gain by agreeing to it? Doesn't make any sense. In fact, he'd actually be losing money.

Felli was asking to leave, yet wasn't handing in a request.

So what is it? Stones wants to leave? Or doesn't he want to leave? If he doesn't want to leave, then why would he go along with what the board supposedly want and be made to look bad, whilst losing money too?

Fine let him get on with that. Won't help his England career either.

Bad do by him to do this with just a few days to go. Real stab in the back.

Here is RM trying to build a team for the future and get us back up there, then this screws that up. In The Times today, their journo was saying Chelsea need Stones to bolster their defence nothing about the fact that it screws our defence up. But there again with the media we count for sweet FA because we are not London or in top four. Hence my tough stance on this.
