John Stones transfer saga

1. Perhaps I'm an old naive romantic, but I do find myself wondering whether Stone stays if we beat Man City. This is no attack on the squad or Roberto. Thought we played well against a great team in a great moment of form. But if we win, does Stones think, "hang on, I'll stay one more season and see if we can't do something special..." But with a draw, a win, and a loss, we look like last season all over again.
2. If we sell, do you want Roberto to resign? Personally, if he gets the money to spend, I think he should stay. Sometimes you just can't hold onto a player and if his head is turned and you get a good return on your investment, you just throw up your hands and spend the money. That said, if we sell Stones, Bobby doesn't get the money and he still stays, then I'll conclude--like many on here have already--that he is just the creature of a corrupt board. And then I'll be really in despair. Because then there is no end in sight for this rot.
We'll learn a lot about Stones, about our club, and about Roberto in the next number of days. As The Esk has noted, a genuine turning point for the club.

He's taking a massive risk IMO.

That mistake he made against Watford...we tolerate as a learning experience. Do that in a CL game and he won't see the pitch for a while.

That crazy walk-a-bout he did vs City. The one where he gave the ball away and tried to win it back...which led to him getting tackled by the LB and the face save by Howard.

I think he's a massive talent...but not ready for the largest stage. That stuff will be magnified a million times over with a massive fee next to his name.
Agree a million times. We will indulge him, love him, improve him and then--if we don't get into the CL ourselves in the next season or so--let him go with good grace. Those mercenaries will bench and ridicule him after one bad game. Really? In recent years, how many "talents" have left this club and thrived? Arteta is the only player who springs to mind. Even Fellaini faced a complete barracking for most of his first season at Man U. And then there's all those players who sank like a stone.

Want to change your stance?

I now would never believe a thing this board says.

It's too convient that late in the window a transfer request is handed in. For the 5th time.

This all suggests to me a managed exit.

The things I have heard now look really cynical ploys by EFC.

It's all panned out as @davek said.

Up till the transfer request I believed the board.

Now I firmly believe @davek and we are being asset stripped cynically

But it's being done in a way where the boards hands look clean and they can blame the players for wanting to go.

I still cant believe that somebody who said this :

But Stones is happy to stay at Goodison Park as he looks to continue his development and become a regular for club and country.

"I am very happy at Everton," he told Sky Sports.

"My aim right now is to try to nail down a regular spot in this Everton team and hopefully that will take care of playing for England.

"I have to keep learning from the likes of Phil Jagielka and keep progressing at this club."

Less than 2 weeks ago has suddenly stuck in a transfer request.

Baffled I am.

Like I said.

If no one can't see some of these power plays behind the scenes ah la @davek

Now. Then there is no hope for our fans.

Board complicity here. Absolutely.

Kenwright taking our fans as idiots

40 Million Pounds is a lot of cheddar. I don't know if the conversation was management asking Stones to turn in his transfer request, or if he indeed did it on his own volition. Either way I don't see good players wanting to come to a team that holds them back from transferring no matter what the cost. We're not a 200 Million dollar salary club and we likely won't be until Kenwright sells the team. Let's try and turn Stones' transfer into 2 or 3 good players that can help us win and develop into t squad that can help us challenge the top-4.

So Stones handing in a transfer request and wanting to play for another club isn't a problem for EFC? I would wager it is, and that said actions are probably partly driven by feeling of being held to a sub-standard contract in the context of how the organization value him when speaking to the media.

Oh it absolutely is a problem for EFC. However, I don't think you actually read what I wrote, rather skimmed it and answered something that wasn't there.

However, if Stones was so near-sighted as to, only 12 months ago, sign a contract committing him to 5 years at the club, then that is his problem.

Look, I know the current world of football contracts are paper thin, however, people should bleedin' well honor their commitments that they make in good faith. The club technically took a risk by giving him a 5 year contract. You can bet the club would be footing it if Stones suddenly turned crap (hey, it has happened to plenty of players before). Stones can at least reward that commitment made by EFC by allowing us to get the most money for him, or, god forbid, honour his end of the agreement.

Indulge me here, cos maybe I am being thick, but are we meant to believe that Kenwright has asked John Stones to put in a transfer request so that he can get all the stick from the fans instead of kenwright, and Stones agreed?

Why would he do that?

The ball is still in our court. We can accept his request or we can refuse his request. Its late to get a replacement and we must get a replacement that we actually want and can slot in without too much disruption or we just say sorry lad but we are not letting you go unless we get a player we want of a good standard. Keep him till next summer if we can't. We can also say to Chelsea...OK £40m plus add ons or he is staying put.

We are in charge of the situation. If we let him go (I am being spiteful here) I hope he goes backwards and struggles so the whole world can see what Chelsea and the richer clubs are doing to English talent and English football. The press might then might change its stance on supporting and aiding these clubs of killing the English game.

No one's mentioned hibbert at centre half.

But back on topic and there is something not right with this situation as many have already said.

It stinks of the board. Past history reflects that.

transfer requests at the end of August
Rooney
lescott
Arteta (3 mins before window closes, don't see a penny)
Fellaini (about 10 mins before window closes)

There's probably more but it's early and half asleep. Someone from the club needs to come out and confirm or deny the 'sky source'. The same people who have said we'd signed Yarmolenko.

Take into account stones' comments from pre season, it doesn't add up.

To be honest I don't know who to blame or what the actual truth is and unfortunately we'll never know, even long after he's been sold we'll still be scratching our heads.
