John Stones transfer saga

It's not being a "selling club" to sell a player who has handed in a transfer request.

Not that I'm doubting the board would have cashed in on Stones this window or the next... Or indeed if he was advised to put in a transfer request so the club can save face. But that is purely speculation.

However you try and dress it up. It is. If you sell when you don't want to, you're selling club

Just a thought...
Stones is a contracted Everton player who has submitted a TR barely twelve months into a five year package.
Chelsea and no doubt others would love to sign him and they have enlisted the help of the media to achieve their aim.
Everton have so far said nothing, and some of our fan base are slaughtering the club for their perceived laissez faire attitude.
Question... As Everton are actually in control, why do they/we have to say anything ?
Where is it stipulated that the club must respond, must cave in, must comment ?
Why can't Everton simply choose whether or not to select and play Stones tomorrow and on Saturday at Spurs and simply refuse point blank to make any comment about a transfer the club has previously refused to countenance.
The media, Sky, Chelsea, the Premiership, the FA cannot force Everton to do anything, so we could simply keep shtum and ride out their storm till the deadline has passed and then issue a statement along the lines of...

"Nobody tells us what to do, who to sell and to whom. You have all totally disrespected our club, our players, our staff and our fans, the league and the game itself with your favouritism and bully-boy tactics with your 'we've got the money attitude'.
Everton FC may no longer be a major power in the game, we may not have the money to compete and we certainly are not the darlings of the media, but we made this stand in the best interest of our club, our staff, our supporters and we will not be swayed from staying true to the principles of fair play. If other clubs would care to join us in our stand against the uneven playing field, the favouritism and the blatant underhanded way some clubs try to do their style of business, then we would welcome their support. If we have to go alone in trying to return our game to a level of decency, then so be it. Finally, Everton FC will discuss with John Stones the future we still see for him with our club in line with the contract made to him and accepted by him last year, and if after those discussions are concluded he still feels a need to leave our club, we retain the right to name our price and our timescale from which, we will not waver."

If this request is real then pretty much what @the esk said.

Apart from don't worry about Stones and his professionalism. Just don't play him.

The money is there to sign Yarmolenko. Leave him and sign VVD and let Stones rot. Him and his agents timing here is a disgrace and this season could already be over. Swerve them both the little scruffy wools. They've played their hand, call their bluff. These jumped up little retards need to understand that if you sign a contract that's it. You honor it

Let him 'rot' on the bench and watch his value plummet.

And also, retards? Cmon..

They'll keep coming with incremental increases until he refuses to play. Best off slapping a hefty price on him and a deadline, put THEM on the back-foot.

Not much time left though to drag out this game of brinkmanship, which is all it has been from the start.

The worst case scenario is still very much on: he is sold on deadline day and there is no time to spend the money.

Seen it all before unfortunately. :(

This is what many of us have thought would happen from the beginning of this 'saga', and it's certainly heading in that direction.

Everyone saying Jonny Evans isnt a good player, are the same people saying Cleverly isnt good. I know a few UTD fans and they say evans is a good defender. How can people say Van Dijk is good when he is playing against the likes of Partick thistle week in week out?

Regardless of his ability, he seems to be injured a lot so if he comes here he will have plenty of time in the treatment room chatting to his erstwhile colleague, Gibson.
