John Stones transfer saga

Ive not read all this thing, but do we think Mourinho has pulled off a superb move by very publicly taking off Terry at City to acheive this kind of reaction?? Apologies if already discussed.

Pure genius if so.

The club needs to say something as soon as they can. They've kept the fans in the dark with pretty much everything this window, and the time clearly is now for some clarity.

I'm very surprised Stones has done this, and wouldn't be altogether shocked if there was some pushing from above. But it is what it is, and as much as I would love for Martinez to tell him to shove his request, I can't see it happening. And I'm not sure if keeping a 21 year old with a turned head is necessarily a good idea.

Basically, the club needs to act swiftly. If he's getting sold, sort it right now. If he's not, tell him now and end it. But finish this. It's already gone on too long.

Stones: "I'm not interested right now.

Chelsea: "this contract offer says you are interested"

Stones: "these are not the droids we are looking for"

Living in Australia I have got up every morning dreading this news, but now it seems to have happened I'm a bit meh about it. We'll get someone else, Stones may be a big flop elsewhere.
I feel most gutted for kids who looked up to him. Thanks John, some role model you turned out to be. Best wishes to Everton mums and dads and your young ones.

He's taking a massive risk IMO.

That mistake he made against Watford...we tolerate as a learning experience. Do that in a CL game and he won't see the pitch for a while.

That crazy walk-a-bout he did vs City. The one where he gave the ball away and tried to win it back...which led to him getting tackled by the LB and the face save by Howard.

I think he's a massive talent...but not ready for the largest stage. That stuff will be magnified a million times over with a massive fee next to his name.

Haha he's a foul machine with no pace to make up for inevitable mistakes. No thanks. At least Besic has experience in the position. Bobby has to earn his pay this week. That's for sure.

You may want to do a quick edit to explain you are replying to a previous comment about Barry. ;)

At least, I hope you were replying to a previous comment about Barry.

I love how people trot out wages like fact. The only fact is we have no idea how much EFC are paying him. If he was silly enough, knowing his own potential, to sign a sub-standard deal 12 months ago, that is his problem, not EFC's.

The only relevant things are this. He signed a 5 year contract 12 months ago. Everton value him more than 30mill GBP. If Chelsea want him, considering the talent potential, coupled with the length of the contract, then they will have to meet Everton's valuation.

IMO Everton have nothing to lose with not settling for a fee below what they want. Best case, Stones stays and stays in the team, maintaining his professionalism and does his part for the team. Worst case scenario, Stones stays, has a huff, is out of the team for a while, but then realises if he wants to be part of the international setup he needs to be playing.
So Stones handing in a transfer request and wanting to play for another club isn't a problem for EFC? I would wager it is, and that said actions are probably partly driven by feeling of being held to a sub-standard contract in the context of how the organization value him when speaking to the media.
