John Stones: Everton defender not for sale despite '£30m Chelsea bid'

Everton will resist Chelsea's attempts to sign John Stones by maintaining that the England defender is not for sale.

The Toffees are refusing to comment on claims they have received and rejected a third offer of £30m from the Premier League champions for the 21-year-old.

Bids of £20m and £26m have already been rejected by Everton.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is determined to strengthen his central defence after substituting John Terry during the 3-0 loss at Manchester City.

Everton's position, voiced publicly by manager Roberto Martinez, has been unmoved and they are determined to stand firm even as reports emerge that a third bid of £30m has now been lodged.

Mourinho and Chelsea must now decide whether to make further efforts to secure Stones but it would take a major reversal in Everton's policy for any potential deal to proceed.
In other words sod off!lol in a nutshell!

I think you're placing too much emphasis on winning the battle for public perception. Sure, it helps put an end to banners being flown over the pitch, but in reality, all that matters is performance. Selling Stones for a ridiculous fee allows the club to increase its talent level and thus gives them a greater chance of success.
Oh dear. And where would
Very good
Very good mate, have you sent it to a Chelski fan site ?

There's only one way this ends and it's not with Stones playing for us.
Why Brennan?

For that to happen think one of the following would have to be true
A) Chelsea bid a ludicrous "can't be refused" amount
B) Board sells at 35m which recent transfers would suggest is at best fair market value for an English defender with 4 years on his deal, probably low given lateness of window and our CB situation.
C) Stones agitates for move/forces one with transfer request.

Which of those do you think it will be or is there another scenario I've missed?

Most likely would be B for me given current info but tbf to the board they have rarely sold players at lowish fees.

There's a world of difference between the media attempting to generate revenue with fictitious rumours and real transfer negotiations.

As I said we don't know how long McCarthy and Mirallas were in negotiations over improved contracts, and seeing as both players where entering the later stages of their previous deals it was inevitable we'd be trying to tie them down with new terms. Stones isn't in this position and we have a strong hand to play here. Like people have said there's no point clouding the situation at the moment, and it's doubtful Stones camp would welcome it either while the windows open and the club is turning down real bids.

McCarthy was not in the later stages of his contract. so that is rubbish.

We just had a 3rd bid from Chelsea...how many more bids before the club puts a contract under the nose of the lad.

Get it done and lets stop hiding behind nonsense arguments.

You clearly have no idea how these things work so it's pointless carrying on with this D.

I think Everton are acting disgracefully on this one, we should issue a formal apology to Chelsea and Jose Mourinho. Furthermore we should then proceed to tell Chelsea that we will now accept the initial £20m bid. Once we have completed that little saga, we should compose an open letter to the media and journalists alike again apologising for stressing them out, by not just rolling over to Chelsea's first offer.

Obviously it's complicated and on a case-by-case basis, but when there's a huge shock of cash introduced into football from an outside source, values all over go screwy. It's inevitable.

Agreed that it will be by case but considering that we got Deulofeu and Cleverley for around 4 million this season - the season of the first big increase I'd say that there is every chance of doing the same next year...if we pick are targets correctly.

Look at us being dead arrogant thinking we have the player under some sort of professional contract. The utter nerve of us denying the young boy his dream, we're like the opposite of the make a wish foundation. I don't know if a formal apology would do it, perhaps we should fly a banner of apology over the bridge and air-drop Stones' contract into the stadium of deserving not-plastic fans.
