You provide the mirror for them to stand and gawp at themselves.

It's a selfless role you do and I for one applaud it.

Idiot on Talk Sport then saying "Martinez must know Chelsea arn't going to come back in with another bid for him" its the other way around ya bell, Martinez is saying he is staying because he isn't for sale, trying to make out we have started he is staying only because Chelsea have decided to look elsewhere, pathetic.

It's difficult to know what might have happened behind the scenes though. Maybe Chelsea have been told 'don't bother coming back unless it's at least £40m' which has caused them to pull the plug.

Yeah that is true, but he made it sound like the only reason Martinez is sure he is staying is because Chelsea have decided he can!! I know everyone has there price no mater who they are, but i think Stones was only going to going if it was a OTT offer like we have had in the past for a few players.

Ronald Koeman secured Europa League qualification for Southampton last season despite a summer overhaul that made the club a £60m profit. But, with Chelsea having had bids of £20m and £26m rejected for the England international Stones, Martínez is not tempted to follow the Southampton model and cash in.

He added: “That’s exactly what we don’t want to do. We want to build around young players. Our strategy is to build something and keep what we see as the future. I appreciate what others have done but clubs are different. No one is in the position that we are. I respect what Southampton have done. They’ve been a breath of fresh air and a terrific story in the last three campaigns but every club has to work with what suits them.”

What an odd question to ask.

Lets see Southampton qualify for the Europa League AGAIN by doing the same thing again.

All Southampton actually did was get about 6 more points and move up one place, partly because we were terrible and ended up below them. They were also pretty lucky that the europa league stretched down to 7th last season because there have been a lot of seasons we've finished there and not got it. People seem to think they sold off half their squad and moved up the table massively but that really didn't happen.

Its actually a non ambiguous statement for once from RM. Respect!

The latest thing from the media now seems to be, "Awww, come on Everton, see sense. You can't hold on to Stones, you should be made to sell him to a 'bigger club'. Look, Southampton did it and they're alright, You should do the same!"

Seen a couple of different articles adopting this sort of utterly patronising tone.

Finally! Martinez has come out and articulated a statement of intent sans his usual BS sensational adjectives, 'phenomenal', 'incredible' and such like (though I note 'terrific' crept in lol). I recall Moyes being castigated for his utterance "I know how Everton works, Roberto will soon get to learn how Everton works". Hopefully Roberto is learning - and fast...nice guys will finish last around these parts

You beat me to it. Was going to post how refreshing it is to have a fluff-free statement come from him at a press conference...finally!
