John Stones transfer saga

Losing John Stones wouldnt mean we would go down. I am sure there are defenders who could come in and do a job.
Agreed, but the clocks ticking & time to get a decent replacement is diminishing. I think I agree with RM when he says the window should shut when the season starts.

Stones value is only going to go up up, Chelsea know this as do Everton. Why sell now to upset the team and squad, stones will get into the England set up over the course of the season, he will go to the euros play in that, the figure then is close to 45 - 50 mil then we may sell.
In the mean time Roberto look for replacements.

It's interesting that Everton supporters think that but outside the majority see, at this point in time, Cahill, Jags, Jones & Smalling ahead of him in the pecking order meaning in a 23 man squad there isn't any room for more than 4 CD

There are going to be quite a few disappointed supporters when , and it will be when he is sold for way below the sums being talked about on here

With Martinez saying that he doesnt want to sell him and repeatedly said he's a part of Everton's future, the board would be brave to sell the lad this close to the deadline, they really would.
Things are already heated amongst Everton fans and i think undermining your manager and selling our best prospect since Rooney would cause massive kick offs.

Highlighted the bit in bold. What has Shearer and the others encouraging Stones to go to Chelsea got to do with the highlights of the game.
If Chelsea bid £100m and Everton accepted, then they can discuss his situation, not for the laughable half of David Luiz fee they can't!!!

If anything were to nudge some people over the fence, it would be that yeah

I think the board best tread carefully with this Stones situation. I don't think selling him on deadline day will cause a full on fan mutiny, but it would certainly increase the chances of one down the line

All it needs is for one event to galvanise all sides of the support and bring them together with a common purpose. As it stands right now, we're a support divided and that's why nothing ever gets done

That's a generic response mate (I got the exact same).

If you put a second one in and request that the matter be escalated they have to conduct an investigation.

I got the same word for word response... clearly they pick up on key words and send out a letter that was closest to an easy response for them. I pointed out that it was clearly just replying to what they wanted the letter to be about and not a reply to the points raised which were not that I disagreed with his opinion but that the statement was clear advice to Stones to take a decision that currently wasn't on offer to him and this seemed linked to some self interest of Shearers and would amount to tapping up in most circumstances, adding as you say that it was not related to the game or the issues as a programme such as MOTD should be seeing them

got this response that again is a pre-writtern one, but we will see if anything further happens

We are sorry that you were not satisfied with our earlier response to your complaint and appreciate that you felt strongly enough to contact us again about the matter.

In these circumstances we aim to investigate and reply to you normally within up to 20 working days (around four weeks) but will contact you if we believe it may take longer. The time needed at this stage depends on the detail of the issues needing investigation, practical issues such as whether a production team is available or away on location and how many other complaints are also having to be investigated.

We aim to use your licence fee as efficiently as we can, so if you have complained about the same issues as others we will send our response to you and everyone. We may also not investigate or reply in great detail if a complaint doesn’t suggest a potential breach of BBC standards, or a significant issue of general importance. This is in line with the BBC Trust’s complaints procedures which you can read at: www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/governance/complaints_framework/.

This acknowledgment is automatically generated from an unmonitored address so please don’t reply. If you think you’ve received this in error please contact us using our webform at www.bbc.co.uk/complaints, quoting your case reference number.

the board def need to be aware there would be a huge level of protest if they consider selling, as much to do with making a clear statement that the game can't be about money men using the media to bully clubs, as the outrage at our board for being greedy/cowardly enough to give in to Chelsea. Its not about whether we would benefit from Stones being sold any more in my opinion but about who we are as a club, and whether the game will be about anything more than money in the future

Alas it doesn't and you have to deal with it

I wonder how mangers ever coped with the old system where you could buy just about all season through to March/April

Agreed.

It is nonsense to moan about it when it cannot change as there is no uniform date for the European leagues to start.

Marinez knows this as well as anyone.

Besides.....the whole month of January is given over to a "window"......does we want that abolished as well?

People should be grateful there is a window because as you say, this nonsense would continue well beyond the cut off date on September 1st just like in the old days :(

We would be listening to the speculation all season.

They coped just fine. At least under the old system of no window at all there was no option for clubs to say that they don't have time to spend the money. Under the current system so much business for some clubs is done in the last few days which leads to panic buying and overspending.

All this clock ticking down / 20 days 2 hours 3 seconds to go until we hear the chimes of Big Ben and Jim White finally stops shouting at us through the TV screen is a total charade.

We won't even have that the drama of the midnight countdown from now on, Ed.

It closes @ 18.00 BST.
