John Stones transfer saga

He sure did. On some social media thing called Breathe Sport? Here is his quote:

'If John Stones believes he can get into the Chelsea first team then he has to make the move to Stamford Bridge - that's just the way of modern football. Players these days put personal ambition over club loyalty. As an Evertonian I'd obviously love him to stay, but the kid needs to do what's best for his own career development'

Bill had a word with Reidy now has he? Sad to see. Bet you Big Nev would never say that.

Peter Reid saying Stones should go if he thinks he can get into their team.

And if Reidy truly believes and means that, doesn't this signal that even our best of the recent past are caving in and accepting we're no longer the club we think we are/should be ?

I see no problem with that. More of an acknowledgement that this is the way footy works except for local lads who (rightly) should show some affinity with Everton and want to stay here.

Very possibly a correct assessment, but still very, very saddening.

This is the final straw....reid, ratcliffe and gray have all suggested he should leave. This is why we are stagnating. ...key people past and present have no fight, ambition or desire to unearth our potential and get back to where we should be....life as a blue is proper [Poor language removed] at the mo ; really lost the will to carry on.

...I think Reidy is also saying (on the sly) "think you're up to it, lad? Really? Pffft".

And he'd have a point too.

Personally I'd like to see our legends man the barricades for us. Not adding to the drip drip drip of pressure from all and sundry in the media. It's bad enough without our own people flogging our players for us. Unless he's under instructions to keep his free tickets and privileges :(

Ha Ha. A strong possibility.

It may be a good indication of a club sanctioned softening up exercise prior to the dirty deed being done.

I'm not having a go at you, but I find some of these statements a bit over the top. We're not in the position we thought we'd be after the 5th placed finish but there are some serious over reactions on here and at Goodison in my opinion. We haven't challenged for trophies since 1995 so why all of a sudden people are crying about us carrying on that trend is beyond me. We don't have a given right to just win trophies and be at the top because we used to be a top club. The Geordies think they deserve success, so do the RS, so do Sunderland and Leeds.

I am proud to be an Evertonian but clearly we aren't that attractive as a club to outside buyers or there would have been some interest in the media to unsettle Kenwright.

We came 5th recently, and spent £28m on our record signing. We've re-signed Deulofeu and we're one game in to the season. Our squad has Stones, Barkley, Lukaku, McCarthy, Mirallas, Jagielka etc in it instead of the dark days of the 90's where we had dross like Gemmill, Pembridge and Alec Cleland. In 2004 we had to sell our best asset because of a lack of ambition. Recently we've kept Baines and now McCarthy and Mirallas, and the Stones thing hasn't even been decided yet. If he does go it will be for about £35m.

I'm not trying to say it's great at the moment and that we should be happy about not challenging for trophies anymore or being able to compete with clubs who were traditionally way behind us like City and Chelsea, but that's the reality of it. If you think it's bad supporting Everton. Think of the other 86 league clubs outside of the Sky 4 + City and Spurs. It's the same for them or worse.

Imagine supporting Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday or Forest. For me that's when i'd be losing interest and feeling like there is no hope. Not one game in to the season with a talented top flight squad like ours.

The media do not care about Everton.

There are and have been interested buyers for the club but they sign confidentiality agreements to prevent any talk.

People know who they are but can't say publicly for fear of being sued.

Everton fans deserve to have a club much better than it currently is.

Bristol City have outspent us this summer, FFS.
