John Stones transfer saga

Not a shock. Though I do feel our resolve may be tested. We should dismiss it outright though.

It's the third bid now - we should be coming out and releasing a statement basically saying the amount offered is nowhere near our valuation of the player. Not the "not for sale" nonsense, as nobody buys that - but the bid isn't the price required for us to even bother getting our thinking caps out of the wardrobe about.

yeah the question was out of order, clearly prepped though I would think so Shearer can have his rant. but even then why did Lineker not come back and put an alternative point of view. Said I find Lineker a bit dodgy before though and got a load of stick from some Blues. The stuff about Barca is interesting. proper football man Clough
Because it's telly mate, they have editors and producers and directors who set it all up, pretty much down to the length of time they discuss it. "And tonight's story/angle is....."

They can bid all they like, we have been told by Martinez he is not for sale, if we sell him Martinez is a lair, be interesting to see what happens next.

If John himself handed in a transfer request that would make it a lot harder to refuse to sell, keeping unhappy players sometimes works out but it isn't an ideal situation.

True that, if Stones comes out and makes the noise that Lescott did or lets it be known like Felliani did than i guess its a different ball game. We can still say sorry not this window and i still think his price will go up, either way we are in the driving seat on this one at the mo.

Agent Shearer on national BBC MOTD strikes as Terry's mate!
The media pressure has been unusually blatant, even to some neutrals, can you imagine how hard the sell job has been going on behind the scenes on John/his agent?

I'd like to hope we are with the long contract and John not being the Sterling/Lescott type to down tools or let the attention affect his performances. But he could just make his feelings clear to Martinez in a professional manner like Fellaini did and unfortunately Andy Hunter has suggested we have scant transfer funds which means the "sell to buy" choice raises its ugly head.

I'm 100% convinced Martinez wants to keep Stones. Not just because he is his type of player and we only have one other experienced CB but because as you say we can probably sell him for a higher fee if we wait a few months. But whether circumstances allow him to do that is where I'm a bit doubtful.

One small detail appears to have been missed....

Screw Chelsea and their money! We should hold out. Or at least buy a couple of players first as we then risk being held to ransom over new signings because of big money coming in.

If we sell stones now it could have a massive impact on the season, face a season struggling near the bottom of the league, even worse get relegated then how much money does it seem like is lost then.

Calm down.

If we sell Stones, three things will be true:

1. He wants to leave. No solid suggestion this is true. So for me, this ends here. But regardless...

2. We'd get a good fee for him. If there's one thing the board have proven over the last five or six years, it's that they're tough negotiators when it comes to selling valued players.

3. We'd have replacements coming in as a prerequisite for selling. Stones wouldn't leave until we had his replacement ready to sign immediately.

We're not going to get relegated over this.
