Dan Gosling

Echo sentiments before me.

Gosling scored what is one of our most memorable goals in years and to do it in 119 minute to knock them lot out the cup was magical in my eyes.

Who gives a damn if he left us? He clearly hasnt gone onto bigger and better things so he grabbed his paycheck when he left and now he is earning his way in football again and learning a very valuable lesson. Don't think he should be thought of any more than any other player to randomly leave the club.

Interestingly, had a lad come over to Australia to play cricket at my club, was Plymouth's goalkeeper (U/18's or something) the same time Gosling was there and was actually good mates with him, got drunk one night, rang him up and we were calling him a greedy so and so.. Took it quite well, was actually a really nice bloke.

Could you imagine the fume at BK if he turned out to be a world class player and Newcastle sold him to Madrid/barca for megabucks'. Would luv to see BK talk himself outta that one @MoutsGoat

Who said there was no justice in the world. He had an opportunity to be good and pipassed it up for money, which he would have got anyway. Can't see him looking back at what he achieves and saying those days playing 2nd rate football in a second rate seaside resort were great.

I know I'm going against the consensus, and I might be blinkered from benefiting with rare insight on this one, but my view remains as;

I'd have done the same thing as Gosling.

I suspect the vast majority on here would have done too.

We would only offer him a deal if he recovered to our satisfaction from his career threatening injury - an injury the Clubs professionals aggravated.

The lad invested his life into football, and had very genuine doubts over his future. Newcastle offered him a deal/mortgage paid off and more - the offer of regular football in his preferred position.

He had two choices.

1) Hope his injury doesn't end his career (or severely limit it) and wait on a contract from Everton.
2) Sign a 25k a week/4 year deal/signing on fee elsewhere

It's rare, but on this occasion I have it on good authority that we were waiting on his fitness before committing to any offer. I've said all this before, and it proved sensible from the club, it plagued him since - justifying his decision if anything. At least he got one big pay day before ending up at the Bournemouth's of the world.

But is he happy....actually in this case I suspect not.

...I think the Gosling move was good for him, good for Everton and bad for Newcastle. The injury he got was a horror, had he got his shot off immediately he would probably have scored and avoided the collision. Sad really but at least he appeared to have secured his financial future.
