What have we learned from pre-season 2015?

Will be interesting to see if we have learnt from last season and the first game will show this.

Watford will likely come for a point so let's hope we move the ball quicker and more direct.

We still look well short upfront without a backup for Rom. Can't believe he has money available as he would surely sort this
No they won't. Promoted teams haven't developed the fear in the early games and will look to have a good go. Expect them to pressure us and try to out energize us. It will be a tricky game but hopefully that will also work to our benefit.

I feel it is the same tactics as last season from Martinez.
His tactics may work but not with the current players we need more intelligent players
But obviously everyone agrees Kone is useless and not a footballer. If lukaku is out we're screwed.
Cleverley looks ok but best in the middle in place of Barry maybe. Not the answer on the left were he played first half today.
That new player looked lively though Rooney. Nearly scored a 30 yarder

If they have any brains then they'll sit back. We can't break teams who sit back down.

They break away and score. That's it.

If they come here and have a go then they're stupid.

In fairness teams that have pressurized us lately haven't been doing too badly either.

If Martinez took the whole team to a Madams House..
its highly likely none of them would score there ...........

We have a decent little player in McAleny who could quite easily do a job linking our midfield to attack and he gets played wide with all the other players Martinez is not sure of.

That Kone is absolutely awful.
That we have no strength and depth.
That we're a few key injuries away from players playing out of position to cover.
That we desperately need some new signings.

we need to buy charlie austin! or another half decent striker to hit the back of the net.
we need a new young keeper but who is out there who could step straight into the first team?

I just hope today's match is not a sign of what's to come. It seemed we had nothing in the final third - we didn't put them under any pressure until Rooney came on. I hope our forwards were taking notes - Rooney was showing how it should be done. Was happy with the defence - Stones and Jags look fit and up for it. Impressed with Cleverley. Kone is garbage.

I asked in a thread earlier this week just how important pre-season was as a way of judging our form as a team or the potential of the various young players that usually get a run out. The consensus was that it wasn't important at all.

Has that all changed now?
This is Everton. If we win pre-season games, they mean nothing. If we lose pre-season games, they mean everything

Yup. Next week is the real world. We will see then ...fingers crossed .... Plenty of positives to work with if we can iron out the negatives that we all can see

with the exception of teams that came at us and we were able to counter, what game did his tactics 'work'? Every time i watched Everton in the second half of the season the ANNOUNCERS made it a point to say our game plan was sussed out and the 'GOODISON FAITHFUL ARE RESTLESS'.

We've learnt nothing from this pre-season to suggest that things are going to be any different from the 2nd half of last season. We will play well in patches and beat teams of lesser quality but struggle against teams of better quality. A bit meh really.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the new season with any degree of confidence, but hope to be pleasantly surprised. A win against Watford is a must otherwise things could go downhill fairly quickly.
