What have we learned from pre-season 2015?

Much better than last season.
Players look sharper and more competitive
Browning and Galloway have arrived.
We look toothless still without Lukaku and sometimes even with him.
A few sensible and objective points. There's some positives compared to last year's pre-season, but we are still not in a comfortable position.

Our play in the final third is worrying and without Lukaku and/or other key players through injuries, we are easily nullified.

Hopefully their return and we may be more promising, but it doesn't guarantee anything. A few new signings in key areas is vital.

It's certainly not all doom and gloom yet and no need for panic stations, however people are rightfully concerned. Let's see after Watford!

1. The players are fitter than last pre-season
2. We are unable to create chances.
3 We can't defend set-pieces.

Same old, same old, really...

Will be interesting to see if we have learnt from last season and the first game will show this.

Watford will likely come for a point so let's hope we move the ball quicker and more direct.

We still look well short upfront without a backup for Rom. Can't believe he has money available as he would surely sort this

What has been a feature is the promise shown by some of the younger players, Browning, McAleny, Dowell, Pennington, Galloway etc. They have shown the desire to make an impression and take their chance, well done to them.

I asked in a thread earlier this week just how important pre-season was as a way of judging our form as a team or the potential of the various young players that usually get a run out. The consensus was that it wasn't important at all.

Has that all changed now?

Personally I would not say I have learned a lot just reminded about the fact that Howard Barry Kone and Osman are completely finished and should not be starting games. If any of them 4 start games for us next season we deserve to get beat. All are finished and should see out their days as squad players.

Or better still, released & the wages freed up. But it's been the M.O. to offer senior players extensions (Especially during the kenwright regime) for some inexplicable reason. Would love to know the rationale behind it, meself.

Your thread was about how useful preseason is for judging young talent. The likes of Baxter has made people doubt that it's any use at all for that.

That doesn't mean that you can't learn anything from preseason games though.

Some of the youngsters have looked good, Browning in particular.
Kone will never make it at Everton
Barry shouldn't be starting games
Cleverly can bring something positive to the team. Looks to be a good footballer.
The moaners on here still take delight in us losing so they can bore everyone with their negativity
We don't have enough creativity, and will struggle any time Lukaku doesn't play
Barkley needs to concentrate on keeping possession until he gets his confidence back
Mirallas, Stones and McCarthy still look committed despite the fact they're destined to start the season at bigger clubs like West Ham and Spurs.

I'm only concerned to the extent they haven't got the obvious targets we needed in.

The team are very promising in fits and starts. I see football being played on the deck and it looks good. We conceded the first because we have two CB's who cant get shut of a ball in the box and a GK who thinks it's nothing to do with him. We failed to exert pressure in the opposition box because we have only one option and when he's not playing it all collapses at the edge of their box.

Signings. That's what we require. We'll be more than ok.
