Palace fans rate him as one of their top players. They had s decent defensive record especially under Pulis, Birmingham also had a good one with him in the team. Can't judge him until he plays. Everyone was saying the same about Jagielka and Distin, both turned out top quality.

He's tall and can defend, but you're doing him a disservice here. He's very comfortable on the ball. It doesn't surprise me at all that Martinez likes him TBH

It wasn't an intended sleight on him, but Roberto might be thinking here (a) defender first (b) comfortable defender second, rather than vice versa. If he is comfortable on the ball as well, then all to the good.
