Try to keep him, or let him leave ?

I assume his contract is up 1st July, if so his agent should be advising him to sign somewhere on or before then. If he's actively playing for England U21s without a club then he risks being injured and left in limbo. While he'll be covered by England insurance for injuries it 's not exactly a strong selling point being injured and trying to get yourself a new club. It's a bit different being out of contract when you're lazing on the beach , and maybe a small risk but why take it.

Some ITKnowledge appears to have surfaced regarding this matter:

I had a real good source tell me yesterday that Luke Garbutt will be signing a 5-year contract extension with Everton, Bill Kenwright has personally got involved with the contract negotiations but we will now have to pay him £30k a week to stay instead of the £12k a week we initially offered.

The irony of the situation is that Luke would have happily signed for £12k 2 months ago if we had agreed to put in his contract that he can go out and play next season on loan and get a full season playing experience, but RM wouldn’t do that as he wanted him as back-up for Baines.

Negotiations then went stale, his price has increased because other clubs were willing to pay him £30k so Everton have to match that, and now they will allow him to go on loan, with Bournmouth his likely destination for the season.

All-in-all good news, but it sounds like a very poorly handled negotiation for what is turning out to be a real hot prospect of a player. I was also told that Luke had never pushed for a move away or more money, he only wanted assurances about playing time and understood going on loan was best for his development.

No, he's on 24/7 sale of the club duty
