Change of style next season?

We should be flexible in our approach to games, we shouldn't be setting out with 2 holding midfielders every game. We should be setting up to counter specific threats and to take advantage of other teams weaknesses.

There's a difference between saying you think Martinez would play him rather than whether you think he should play.

That said I think he's a decent player. I just don't like the formation we'll play with him in the team unless someone leaves.

Besic is one for the future when Barry, Gibson and McCarthy leave and squad player now.

I don't think he will get much more minutes next season than he did this one. It will be very interesting how Martinez plans on keeping them all happy.

McCarthy Barkley
Deulofeu ______ Mirallas/Pienaar
Lukaku​


But with the way our wingers play i'm not sure if we would be vulnerable on the counter or not, hopefully Martinez has a master plan and can make us perform like we did in 2013/14

Personally believe that 4-3-3 is the best system in general with the right personnel. Unfortunately I don't think we have them.
Our best system might be 4-1-4-1.

They didn't really tho did they mate. Fabregas is not a holding DM. Matic was the dedicated holding DM.

On occasion Jose played with 2 DM, against Liverpool springs to mind, where he played Zouma or a mikel and the press moaned about his tactics.

Febregas was often dictating things in and around the opposition penalty area and was the highest assisting player at xmas!

Roberto clearly took the reigns off Mcarthy a little end of season but imo he's no box to box player. He doesn't score or create enough.

He should be our Matic where imo he would be amazing!

I agree about Jimmy mac. Not creative enough to play further forward. Good player though.

With cleverly added we've got a lot of options in the middle. I was hoping we'd get a player like Gibson who uses the ball well and can put it in behind defenders.

Haven't seen enough of him to say tbh. From what I have seen he's more industry than artistry.

I can't see Barkley being as bad as he was either. His passing was dire last season. He should be better which lessens the need. Who knows, even Gibson may get himself fit..
