If you could go back to change a result....

The tribunal's decision to ban English clubs from Europe, but failing that, the home Villareal match 2005.
Groucho, because of that ban I'm not sure if any further success would have prevented that group of players from ultimately fracturing anyway? The main reason Kendall left, then Lineker, then a few of our title winning players, was to play in Europe.

However, I do think sustained domestic success during the ban would have led to our standing as a club being far stronger in the lead-up to the formation of the Premier League. I firmly believe if we were still seen as a force then, we'd have become one of the PL 'big 4'. Maybe with this sustained success we'd have been Abramovich's project instead of Chelsea.

Those two games v Carlisle in the 73/74 season. We'd have won the league.

The 2009 cup final.

The 1985 cup final.

The tribunal's decision to ban English clubs from Europe, but failing that, the home Villareal match 2005.

..and I think Carlisle remain the only club we have faced and not beaten in top flight football.

I'd change Liverpool's semi final in the 85 European Cup to a defeat.

This. This is the only result I would change given the opportunity.

Yes. Very good shout. No Liverpool = no Heysel, or at least no English ban = probably more sustained success for a very good and very young Everton team. No guarantee, of course, we'd have won loads, if anything, but I'd have liked to have seen what happened if given the opportunity to

Panathanikos in the European cup QF 1971. If we'd won that game instead of going out on away goals we may have got a crack at that fantastic Ajax side in the final

Well it could be any of quite a few really.. but let's narrow it down.

It could be the 68 Final - we were clearly a lot better than West Brom but just blew it. Nevermind we were rather good in 68/9 and 69/70

In 70/1 we had 2 disasters in a week - Panathinaikos and The RS in the semi - in the latter perhaps we could have managed if Brian Labone hadn't gone off (we lost 2-1 having lead 1-0, familiar?)

In 74/75 the Carlisle results (home and away) cost us dear

Then there's Clive Thomas which being brutally honest meant we stayed in the wilderness for a good few more years (Lee took us close though). In the same season there was the League Cup Final against Villa which nearly went to penalties.

Also the cup runs halted by an awful miss by Varadi against City and the previous season a wasted chance in the semi v West Ham.

Oxford - would have been great to perhaps win the league 3 in a row even if we still lose on GD apparently.Man U in the final.. Chelsea 2009 and countless Derby games (Milk Cup 1984 and the 2012 Semi chief amongst them). Perhaps we might have qualified for the Champions League in 2014 as well. We might have kept that 2 goal lead against Sporting Lisbon and not had to defend (a la Moyes) in the return leg.

I'll nominate - the first four down to some dubious refereeing:
5 Villarreal (disallowed goal) - at least we might have been in the Group Stages - were robbed somewhat of the chance.
4 Liverpool not beating AC Milan with the help of a couple of dubious decisions and a keeper who broke the rules.
3 Semi against Liverpool 1977 - devastating to play so well and get nothing. More bad refereeing.
2 Panathinaikos - a good chance of progressing to the EC Final in 1971 and might have put off a major decline in our fortunes.
1 Any result that stopped Liverpool going to Brussels in 1985 - too damaging for words
