Im sure some have some wonderful agendas and would prefer us to crash and burn to justify everything they have said.

I personally enjoyed the humble pie I had to eat in his first season, it tasted lovely.

I thought you'd gone mate?

Not the first massive humble pie you've had to eat is it Goat?

Turbo humble pie.

We've played some good stuff this season too. Admittedly, we've been crap a lot too. Some of the Europa games we played boss. And for 80 minutes against Arsenal at Goodison, I was convinced we were going to have a great season as we played them off the park. Alas, it all went downhill from there.

So another unproven manager, bit risky that. Very rare they actually work. Then what in 12 months time when your not that convinced hes that good, try someone new?

See the pattern you could get into, very costly too considering we're already skint before contract buyouts and pay offs.

If by Christmas or the end of the season, progress is slow or non-existent, then he'll have been in the job 2.5 to 3 years.

At that point, I think you have to look around to see if there's a better option available at a reasonable price. If there's not, and I thought he was doing OK in an average kind of way, I'd keep him on, but to really improve, sometimes you have to take the risk of getting a decision wrong, so my gut reaction would be to take a risk and try someone else.

We've accepted mediocrity for too long. If I didn't fulfil my part of the bargain on a contract on a regular basis, then said contract would be terminated. Football managers are no different, and I don't believe that the full contract value to the endof 2028/19 would have to be paid out if it was terminated. Normally some compromise is reached.

For the record, I think he'll do better next season and have us in or around Europa league spots. But if he doesn't, and we have another season like this one, then I'd want the board to look very hard for a replacement. Essentially, a big part of the board's job is making the most of the finances we have, and the manager is pretty much the biggest part of that.

well, imo, there's not. I've got faith in him being the man to take us forward, so obviously, I want him here long term.

That's not the same as saying he be allowed to stay until his contract expires.

If we were to go into a prolonged downward spiral then things would have to change at managerial level.

But hey...I hope you are right, that he is indeed the man to take us forward and long may he reign ;)

I'll be gutted if I do have to change my opinion though, as that means we'll be doing crap.

Which is basically what people are saying by voting for "At least till Christmas" or "At least the end of the season"

You have though left yourself open to some very serious vaulting if you want him out some time next season :)

Well, put it this way, all I'm saying is, at this moment in time, I don't think he should be sacked. So in my eyes, he's here for the long haul.

Not arsed about the vaults mate. Besides, I'm not one to jump on the interweb to moan, so I'm not sure I'd ever come on GOT and demand he be sacked anyway. I tend to stay away from here after bad results/performances and do my whinging in the boozer after the game.

Dont get me wrong, if by next december/january we're still doing crap in the league and theres absolutely no sign of encouragement then ill eat humble pie. But we all saw what a ambitious bold dynamic manager we had last season what promised so much, thats bought him some good will my end. Hes made some right cock ups this season but at the same time hes had a lot of [Poor language removed] come up out of his control aswell, so one great season one bad, next year we'll see which one will potentially be the norm. I think we'll be back to all being golden.

To be honest i want nothing more than for us to be floating around near the bottom of the table come Christmas just to see what awesome excuses Davek comes up with for why it's not Martinez's fault.

The sheer amount of individual mistakes which you cant legislate for. Several tried and trusted players going to crap so fast.

I commented on this before to be fair. If you take chances playing it around the back with players who are not comfortable in doing so then you are going to get a lot of mistakes. Its Martinez' own fault as he's not playing to the strengths of the players at his disposal but instead trying to force people to play 'his way' even when it produces a record amount of mistakes.

I fear unless he changes Barry to someone far more comfortable and mobile on the ball - therefore able to come short and take the ball comfortably off the defenders - then we'll get a load more mistakes next season as well.
