Leighton Baines

he was macca, just like the Baines of old today.

I don't think it's any coincidence that he's a lot more comfortable when an Osman or Pienaar type player is in front of him. I think that's why Mirallas was back in the bench today due to not being as disciplined. The same has happened with Coleman, compared to 70% of the season he has looked a lot more solid with a player like Lennon in front of him.

Yep spot on mate,Lennon like Ossie has been solid rather than spectacular, but both of them put a real shift in,and as you say its not a coincidence Coleman and Bainsey both look a lot better for it.

A key word is balance Dario, something we didn't have for 75% of the season and now suddenly we have balance and cohesion and we can out teams to bed like today. Excellent finishing accompanied with balance and discipline made for a pretty comfortable performance in the end and we sent the mancs packing.

Even just making sure Ross is not hugging the left and is more central makes the world of difference. The likes of Naismith and Barkley on the left has severely stunted Baines and made him look a shadow of the player he is. Just shows you though how confidence plays are a part with him and he just doesn't look settled with someone in front of him who doesn't help out/track back.

......all of a sudden he whizzed a few fine corners in. I just had a feeling we would score from that one Stones got on the end of. I thought he did well defensively today, didn't get forward too much but was proper up for it.

To be fair to him, how much he got forward today could of been the result of specific instruction. We let them have a lot of the ball as part of an obvious game plan, but generally for that to work out well players need to be disciplined and stick to their natural positions more often than they would in games where we dominate possession.

Think he has 9assists in the league after today

The PFA Awards are mainly based on media interpretation and management coercion manipulating the player votes.

Southampton have been surprising and although he's bee around a while, it's arguably Bertrand's break through season. People love that.

Has he been the best left back? Nope. As with Coutinho; he has played well at times, but should be in front of Cesc? Not in my humble opinion.
